Art & Life with Rae Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Davis.

Rae, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
At a young age I’ve always had a passion for photography. Whether it was with a phone or the disposable Kodak camera I always wanted to be the one behind the camera. When I graduated high school in 2012, my parents got me my first camera. I started off shooting everything like most people. After doing this for a few months I noticed I enjoyed capturing people the most. I then started shooting portraits of people. Once time went by I invested in new equipment and started to challenge myself more. I started adding concepts to my shoots which involved working with a stylist and make-up artist. This is how I fell in love with fashion photography and glamour shots. I’ve been shooting for about 7 years now and overall being able to create and bring my vision to life by translating that into in image makes me happy.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a self-taught Fashion/Portrait/Live Music photographer. I absolutely love what I do. Most of my inspirations come from old movies or just own vision. Paying attention to detail in these films. Gathering ideas and putting it on paper. I then sit down create a mood board and try to bring my vision to life with no meaning or message behind it. I just want to put my work out and let my followers decide on what it means to them. That’s what is important to me.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
I always tell people to Invest in your art & reap the benefits. Every artist faces a challenge when trying to establish themselves as a brand. It took me 5 years to become a full-time photographer. They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, you have to take that step and don’t give up. Keep on stepping!
