Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Moynihan.
Aaron, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was just your typical awkward ginger kid growing up. I was a huge Pokemon nerd (still am) and went to a private school at first. Once South Shaver Baptist school closed I was inserted into The marvelous public school system. I was bullied a tad in grade school but bloomed late into highschool. I lived with my grandmother who helped raise me alongside my Uncle Patrick and mother Rhiannon. My grandmother Nancy was my biggest hero growing up she was an amazing woman that you couldn’t help but love to be around, she ended up being diagnosed with Hep c in 2009 and fought hard until 2014. I used to have to drive her to dialysis at times when I was 13 so she could get there. I ended up becoming bitter and angry after her passing given the circumstances and was a problem teen. I messed up in school for a while but realized it wasn’t what she would have wanted, and one of the things she had always said that I should be was an actor or model, so I started pursuing that career.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a model and actor. I had always thought about it but never really gave it much thought until I got an offer from a friend to do a fashion show that needed an extra model. I had always had problems with my confidence because of my hair but I had finally started to accept it and knew this was the last step to break out of my Cage. I went for it and did it, I walked the runway for the very first time. I was scouted at the same show too and took off from there. I hope I could inspire people to take a chance, you can achieve so much more than you think. I feel the modeling industry has been made a joke by most people. I don’t think the Zoolander movies help us male models specifically either lol. I hope people can look at models and appreciate all the hard work, time and effort it takes to make these advertisements and fashion shows happen.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The biggest issue is marketing our image. Now we all get the small gigs, in wait for the one that will make you big. But it doesn’t seem like it will ever come. That’s because we aren’t making the right steps to reach our goals. There are many kinds of exposure depending on your craft, but you have to filter out the negative exposure for positive.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
