Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Miller.
Angela, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My passion for people started young. As a child, I often found myself feeling awkward for one reason or another. I was overly tall for my age and painfully shy which did not help my self-discovery. So around 12, my parents enrolled me in a social etiquette class of sorts. A few months in, I was asked to do some modeling. I decided to join an agency and I remember feeling like I had found something that was all of my own. I modeled for years and then found myself personal styling for others most of my life. That is where my love for people began. I believe empowering clients with the ability to find their true best can truly change the life of that person. We live in a reality where first impressions matter as well as how we portray ourselves to others. Taking ownership of putting our best foot forward can mean everything to a person. It’s with that fervor, that I continue to pursue my love of transformations.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As a stylist, I consider my clothing to be wearable art, where I get to express myself creatively through fashion. Every day I portray my emotions in my clothing. Seasons play a big part of how I feel and how I dress. If the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming…your heart immediately goes to bright colors and floral fabrics. In the winter, you dream of bundling up in front of the fireplace, so we all have a tendency to layer up with jackets and scarves and boots. We all fall prey to this, but we do not realize how our surroundings influence our emotions.
As a stylist, when I meet with someone for the first time, I love getting to know the person in their element. What do they do every day? What do they do for a living? DO they have a family? Are they active? What are the things they love about themselves and what are the things they would love to transform? I believe each person brings a unique look and it is learning how to draw that out from each individual. I strive to keep customers looking true to themselves.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
My philosophy is that you have to allow people to be their own person. We can’t fit people into the mold we think they belong. It’s by allowing that freedom, that trust is earned and a relationship form. We may know in our minds that our advice is perfect, but we have to show grace and acceptance. I know this philosophy allows me the pleasure to stay in business. My clients trust me to tell them the truth and to give them the room to find their own personal style that works for them. Form relationships and not customers!
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I aspire to stay relevant on social media. I am on Instagram and Facebook and dabble on twitter. My Instagram address is: angela_miller11 and A.M. styling is my Facebook account. I feel for what I do, images are key to showcase what I do. Clients are drawn to images and the possibilities it generates in their mind of what these pieces could like on their body type.
Collaborations would be ideal for what I do. Involving other brands and artists with personal styling allows everyone to grow and reach new markets.
