Today we’d like to introduce you to Betty Kamyk.
Betty, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was a Sr. Financial Analyst working downtown, long hours and an even longer drive home for over 20 years. After photographing on the weekends, I finally decided to dive in, quit my job and open up my own photography business. I never looked back after that. I love what I do – I get to tell stories through my photography and meet some amazing people while I do it.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Portrait/Wedding Photography. I hope that I capture the essence of everyone I photograph and truly tell their stories because each one of us has a story to tell.
And I don’t like to shoot the same thing over and over again – I aspire to be unique in my work and in my personal life.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Just start… start anywhere. No excuses. I have always been artistic, even as a child but I had to learn everything new about cameras, computers, editing, lighting, etc… and I wasn’t young anymore so it didn’t come easy like when you are young, But I push forward, learned as much as I can and used what I had until I could afford big and better things. But you will never get anyway, sitting around saying you can’t afford it.
