Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryce Saucier.
Bryce, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started creating videos with my co-director in elementary school, starting with comedy skits and skateboarding videos around the age of 10 or 11, shooting on mini dv camcorders and editing in windows movie maker. throughout middle school and high school, I stuck to skateboarding videos and spent all of my free time working on that. At the time I was more focused on honing my skateboarding than my filming/editing but I was slowly upgrading cameras and software until I got my first DSLR in my junior year of high school and was inspired to experiment with other video projects and immediately started making abstract music videos to my brother’s music (Sunrise and Ammunition). My passion for videography and editing grew from there and I joined my high school A/V class, with a great mentor I was able to realize this craft as my dream. Since then I dropped out of college to devote all of my time to creating and was fortunate to survive working freelance. I am currently working part time as the cinematographer for the Houston Rockets, and Director/Cinematographer at Cinemagic Productions creating music videos and fashion films/ shorts.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create all sorts of films with my production team, Cinemagic, ranging from sports documentary work to music videos. My primary focus is music related video content. I have always been involved and inspired by music. My father is an entertainer and singer, my brother has also been a musician for 13 years or so, and a lot of my inspiration comes from watching him create complex and creative music from a young age. I create because I think films are the art form with the most influence and lasting impact. The only other thing I see to have as much influence on me is music, so music videos are heavily stimulating to me. The inspiration and purpose are to shine a light literally and figuratively on artists that inspire me, and not only complement but evolve the experience of listening to music.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I define success by the amount of freedom you have to do what you want. If you’re working on projects that you genuinely enjoy and finding meaning in your daily life you are successful. The most essential characteristic to success as an artist is passion. If you are passionate about what you do, the more attention you give to that passion, the more motivated you will be. There are a lot of other important characteristics too. Positivity and persistence can accomplish anything. Be grateful for your gift.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work can be seen on my website, cinemagic.io , my Instagram @cinemagictx / @bryce.saucier , and YouTube/Vimeo. The best way to support my work is to show anyone who you think would enjoy it.
