Check out Cheryl Pilgrim’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Pilgrim.

Cheryl, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always loved reading and drawing and painting. It wasn’t until I was in my 40’s, however, I decided to pursue children’s book writing and illustrating. After years of raising a family and teaching, I finally started to carve out some time for creating stories. It has taken many years of conferences, classes, and honing the craft of storytelling through words and pictures to finally get my first author/illustrator book signed by a publisher. “Big and Little, a Story of Opposites” will be published by Holiday House and is due out Spring 2019.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I love telling stories through illustrations. I work in a variety of media including acrylics, oils, pencil, watercolor, and digital collage. (Sometimes combining all of these in one picture.) As a kid, books and drawing were my main source of entertainment. I was a little bit of a loner who preferred hanging out with my cats and dogs more than people. Reading always brought me so much joy, I hope my books do the same for children today.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
For me, success is seeing my stories and characters come to life in a book. Nothing makes me happier than making stories through my painting, drawing and writing.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My art can be found on my website at cherylpilgrim.com. I also post frequently on Instagram @cherylpilgrim. My first book I illustrated for TCU Press, “Hound Dawg”, is on Amazon. My debut author/illustrator book, “Big and Little”, can be purchased next spring. Follow me on Instagram for some giveaways to be coming soon!
