Check out Gio Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gio Music.

Gio, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always been obsessed with the production that goes behind music. I joined a DJ club in high school and fell in love with the art. I got a midi keyboard for my 15th birthday and haven’t stopped making music since. After high school, I took my skills to Houston’s nightlife and began playing EDM shows at Stereo Live, Revention Music Center, Houston Underground and more local venues.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make beats. I love working with all genres, but for the past year, my main focus has been hip-hop, EDM and pop. I can sometimes be a perfectionist with my work; I take time to make sure each beat as unique as possible. I really aim to make sure every sound and instrument is enjoyable for the listeners. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time making sure everything sounds nice than actually composing. I also create and post visuals for people to enjoy 59 seconds of free music every week.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think there are a lot of opportunities out there for artists. There’s literally people who make a living by helping artists. I do think artists today have to face different struggles than older generations. It’s harder for artists to focus on their art with the constant pressure of social media around them, I think the best thing a city can do for its artists is to just pull up to their shows and have a personal connection with them. You’re more likely to support a person if you’ve experienced their music in person.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can find me and reach out on Instagram (@_giomusic), and post original songs on my Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/mynameisgio).
