Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Houston.
Katherine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am an abstract painter who has chosen reverse paintings as my format. I typically work with acrylic paints, India inks and some pastels which I paint on the back side of large Plexiglas panels. My work is heavily influenced by the artists who have come before me and nature particularly the fluidity of the ocean. I have owned a home in Galveston for the past 20 years and gain much of my inspiration from my time spent there.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
When an observer views my work, I hope they attain a sense of peace and serenity. My artwork is very personal to me, I feel that each piece that leaves my studio takes a part of me with it. My goal is to create a painting that is beautiful to the observer. I begin each piece with an idea of color that as I work begins to form shapes and dimension.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I would say the biggest challenges are budget and marketing.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
