Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Washington.
Keith, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My first time taking photos was at my cousin car paint and body shop. I was taking images of the before and after shots of each of his client’s vehicles as he worked on them. Only for a short period of time until one day one of his customers ask me to take images of boyfriend and girlfriend. Of course, I enjoyed the photo shoot! I wanted to shoot more!! So I started meeting different freelance models on social media. But it was hard because most models didn’t want to work with inexperienced photographers. Soon I was able to find aspiring and/or freelance models to give me a chance. From there I was able to put two years in and create a good portfolio. I was doing mostly gothic and fashion photography. One day I was approached by a night club media company for paid gigs. I was excited, and I accepted the job! After working with this company for four years, I decided to venture on my own. Afterward, I started weddings, party events, birthday parties and etc. All of this has led me up to eight years into photography, and I love it!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I feel every client deserve the best memorable images! Rather if I’m doing weddings, events or models, I make sure it’s creative. Want my clients to believe and put trust into my work. Enjoying and having passion into my photography is always an inspiration to me.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
I think for photographers today it may be harder because of the population of competition. Working hard and keeping up with the best quality work in your images will definitely help stand out from other competition. In my opinion, I think if more workshops and other networking events are invented would definitely help a lot of artists thrive.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a website to view all of my recent work. You can definitely support my work on Facebook and Instagram.
