Check out Kyle Ma’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Ma.

Kyle, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in Taiwan in 2000. And I always enjoyed drawing as a child. Something that had always inspired me was nature. And I would spend time learning about all the plants native to Taiwan as well as drawing scenes inspired by the environment. My parents, seeing my interest in art, bought me books on art and took me to classes. I realized the full potential of what could be achieved through painting. In 2010 I moved to the United States and began oil painting. Seeking more in-depth training, I studied with artist Elizabeth Locke for a year and a half. There I returned to the fundamentals of drawing, value, color, and edges. I also took workshops and classes around the country to further develop my skills.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do, why, and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
When I create, I strive for the most truthful representation of what I see. I don’t force my work to conform to any style. And my work is inspired by what I see in my everyday life. Something I hope others will take away from my work is to appreciate our surroundings more. In the fast-paced society, people tend to take for granted what’s around them, whether it’s the people or the scenery. So my hope is to inspire others to slow down and take a moment to realize how beautiful our surroundings can be.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success to me is having enough self-confidence to not feel jealousy towards another’s accomplishments. In order to be successful, I feel one needs to turn hard work into a habit. It is consistency that is essential to making progress. And it is also important to view others who are highly accomplished as inspiration and not competition.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is on kylemafineart.com. I am also represented by Wilcox Gallery in Jackson, WY, InSight Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX, and Waterhouse Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA.
