Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Perez.
Lindsey, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Art has always been an important part of my life. Growing up, I was very involved in modeling, acting, music, and photography. These interests ultimately lead me to earn a masters degree in fashion and retail, and I have spent the past several years in a corporate retail environment. My interest in photography grew when I had a child. I invested in professional photography equipment to take stunning pictures of my daughter and family. My dad, who was an avid photographer long before I was born and throughout my childhood, gave me a few lenses and other camera gear he no longer used. They were amazing! I taught myself how to use the new gear, and it really sparked joy within me as I developed my skills. I built a portfolio by doing free photo shoots for neighbors and friends, allowing me to practice taking photos and editing them. I loved it all so much that I dove in and started my business, LJPortraits!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art consists of creating headshots and senior portraits for people in the Katy/Fulshear and surrounding Houston areas. I have an in-home studio that I use to get professional, crisp headshots that lots of my clients use for business cards, LinkedIn profiles, and more. I live in Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear, a 30 or so minute drive west of Houston, and it’s really such a beautiful neighborhood. Although I will travel for shoots, most of my shoots for clients are done in my neighborhood, which offers a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor headshots and senior portraits.
I chose to delve into the headshot and senior portrait realm of photography because I really enjoy the one-on-one aspect of my shoots. It really allows me to focus on my client and make them look their best. Oftentimes, these shoots revolve around an exciting time in a client’s career or a major milestone, such as graduating from school or starting a new job, so it’s really amazing to be part of their experience and to help them put their best face forward.
I hope that when people see my photos, they see a person that is approachable and relatable. I want people to see how confident and beautiful they are naturally, without over-the-top retouching.
How can artists connect with other artists?
As a photographer, photoshoots are a very fun experience! I love capturing my clients’ confidence in the camera while having great conversations and getting to know them. Editing photos afterward is often a lonely task completed alone in a room with no distractions. Sometimes I’ll take breaks from editing and bring my husband in and ask his opinion on some of the photos. This helps keep me on track and breaks up the loneliness, and allows me to have some human interaction.
One of my favorite things I did recently with another photographer friend was going to the Houston Zoo for their photographer’s day. These weren’t pictures I’d use in my portfolio, but it was a great chance to connect with a friend with similar interests and practice shooting in early peaceful hours of the zoo before they opened to the public.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can see my work on my website: www.ljportraits.com. I have some galleries available to view, and I update them a few times each year with new photos from some of my favorite shoots.
I have taken several photos for Houston lifestyle blogger, Sabrina Skiles, of Homegrown Houston (http://homegrownhouston.com/) and Ginny Ellsworth of Zyia Active Houston (https://www.instagram.com/zyiahtx/). You can see some of my work on their websites and social media, but the majority of my work’s end use is for personal or professional needs for my clients.
If you’d like to support my work, let’s book a shoot! It doesn’t matter the occasion – it’s always good practice to have updated photos of yourself. I have fair pricing and can be flexible on packages to fit your needs.
