Check out Lisa Hilton’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Hilton.

Lisa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a self-taught mixed Media artist. I started making art in 2013 as a form of therapy after surviving two strokes.

I suffered from some paralysis to my left side and we tried music therapy but I couldn’t play any instruments so we then tried art therapy and it literally saved my life. I still struggle with issues lingering from the brain damage but those are invisible issues. Every piece of my art contains a story of its own.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make recycled mixed media art. My art is mainly music inspired using all thing music related from vinyl records, cassette tapes, 8 tracks, sheet music, guitar string and actual instruments. All of my items I use are broken damaged or unplayable. I have a lot of musician friends and I get a lot of my supplies donated to me.

I chose recycled art to show my kids that just because something isn’t what it once was (like me post stroke) doesn’t mean you can’t s find beauty in it.

Every single piece I create is a form of therapy and it’s how I release any and all stress or worries and heartaches lol

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think that as long as you’re happy in whatever it is you do than your successful. I spent a number of years in life not ever really expressing myself and I feel in my art I have developed a powerful form of speaking out so I share a lot of my personal stories and find it quite amazing that so many people can relate. I pour my heart and soul into this art and I think if any of my shared stories can help even just one person FEEL HAPPINESS OR REMEMBER SOMETHING POWERFUL IN THEIR LIFE through music and art than I have become a successful artist.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am a regular artist at The Market at Sawyer Yards and First Saturday’s in the Heights and The Fine Art markets in the Woodlands Market Street. You can see Pictures of my one of a kind artwork on my Facebook page
