Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Crispin.
Max, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’m a Houston Photographer known in the scene as Crispin Visuals, I mainly shoot portrait photography. I started taking photos professionally about a year ago, before that I was mainly doing product photography for a few sponsors of mine when I was big in the vape scene. I wanted to do more than just product photography so I dropped that to pursue portrait photography. Wasn’t an easy transition due to the fact that I didn’t know much other than standard camera settings. So, I devoted a lot of time to study every aspect and detail there was before I gained the courage and confidence to go out and provide quality work. Fast forward to a year now, I’ve been in dozens of Collab’s, I’ve gotten my name out there enough to where people know who I am and can recognize me by my work. I don’t want to sound cocky or anything like that but I think having confidence in what you do really has an impact on your work. The model or client feeds off of that and definitely trust you more to do their part in creating amazing images. I love what I do! Making people happy or inspiring people through my works has definitely made me more involved in helping as best as I can when it comes to teaching or sharing knowledge. I had a tough time learning the things that I know now on my own, so providing help to others in any way that I can truly makes it all worth it.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve transitioned over the year from shooting street style fashion portraits to more boudoir/implied portraits. The female body to me is just beautiful! The curves, complexions, the different shapes, and sizes. Every woman is beautiful in their own way, but the ultimate beauty imo is confidence. When I see a model just hit me with that confidence I get hyped, I get zoned, and it motivates me to match that and before you know it 2-3 hours go by and I got 1,000+ images in my SD card. My work, my art is subjective. I do what I do because I love what I do. I don’t need validation from anyone. If you love it and it inspires you then I vibe with you, but if you don’t, it doesn’t affect me one bit. People get so caught up with shooting for the likes, for the love, for acceptance, to get acknowledged by someone or a combination of all of them. There’s nothing wrong with that but then you lose sight of what really matters. How do you feel? What do you like? Are you happy? There are no set rules when it comes to photography. Everyone’s photos are art. Do what you’re doing and improve on it, keep learning, never stop, push yourself to do better and better. One day you’ll find yourself getting all those likes, the love, the acceptance, the acknowledgement because of your dedication, and perseverance.
How can artists connect with other artists?
It is lonely for sure. If you’re truly dedicated to what you do, you prioritize it over, hanging with homies, going out for drinks, watching anime (lol don’t judge), spending time with family and overall being social. I work a full-time job and when I get off I come straight home and edit images for 4-6 hours, go to bed and repeat the same thing again the next day. Managing your time is super important so you don’t burn yourself out but it happens and it’s ok to take breaks. Going to events within your genre always helps network and create relationships. Going to meets (in my case) helps to interact with like-minded individuals who want to talk about the same things you’re into and it creates awesome friendships.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have an Instagram (@crispin.visuals) where I mainly post all of my work. My website and contact info are all in there if you ever want to get ahold of me. You can definitely support my work with a follow.
