Check out Monica Evans’ Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Evans.

Monica, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I don’t actually think my story is that unique. My story started out as pretty much every other mom who bought a camera because she couldn’t afford professional photos of her children. After my second child was born I desperately wanted 1 year photos of her but we just could not afford it. I started by borrowing my father in laws old Nikon DSLR, because I didn’t even own my own camera at this time. I instantly fell in love. So I found an older model canon rebel on sale and with a rebate and started shooting constantly. I was absolutely hooked. I joined forums, found free YouTube videos, borrowed photography books or found free kindle photography books. For the first almost 4 years of my photography career I did not spend a dime on photography education. I think that is where my story changes. So many people feel like they have to spend hundreds or thousands on workshops and quickly become overwhelmed and burnt out. I spent every ounce of free time I had trying new things, experimenting, posting my photos for critique or participating in challenges, all for free. Eventually, like any other mom-tographer, family and friends started asking for me to take their photos. From there I quickly learned that, while I love all forms of photography, wedding photography was truly my calling. I can work a 12 hour wedding on my feet 99% of it and at the end of the day think “Wow, it’s already over?” Once I got started into wedding photography I just knew that was it. I knew that no matter how hard or exhausting the work was, I loved it so much it didn’t even matter or phase me.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a fine art film and digital photographer. I specialize in weddings and couples. I create tangible evidence of memories. I think one of my favorite parts of doing weddings is that the memories I get to freeze, are almost always good, happy, energetic ones.

Digital photography is a phenomenal advancement in our modern technological world, and I love digital photography for specific situations. However, film, while not entirely forgotten, doesn’t get the praise it deserves anymore. Film has an ethereal, tangible, real life feel to it that is nearly impossible to recreate in digital. As an artist film is so fun and exciting because it is challenging and provides a delayed gratification when you finally get to see your images.

I have two great inspirations. Love and color. When you look at it that way, it makes sense that weddings would be my choice of photography.

What I want everyone to know about my work, is that it is absolutely a labor of love. Blood, sweat, and tears go into every single gallery because I love my clients, and I love my work.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the biggest challenge we face, is that there is always someone willing to do your job for cheaper. We all must know, and honor our value and importance in society. We all must know what makes our art and creativity unique and significant, and then hone in on being the absolute best that we can be at that.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?

I know I am partial to Monica Evans Photography, but I wanted you all to know how passionate she has always been in life. Monica has never done anything half way-even if she knew she would get in trouble when mom found out-but seriously, that’s just who she is; as a parent, as a wife, as a daughter, as a sister, as a friend, and as a photographer.

She brings this gift of light into everything she touches, and now to see her work and that light she brings out of every shot, is just so incredibly beautiful.

I am blessed to call her my daughter and so very proud of the gift she gives others through her passion of photography. Thank you for sharing her work with the world.
