Check Out Aaron Travis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Travis.

Hi Aaron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a 23-year-old hip hop dance educator, originally from Joliet, IL and currently based in Houston, TX. My journey in dance has led me to train professionally under some of the most respected choreographers in the industry. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with major names and brands such as Nike, Chance the Rapper, Jamila Woods, Vic Mensa, Roc Nation, and more.

My passion lies in educating and empowering dancers through hip hop. In a time where there is a noticeable shortage of skilled educators in this genre, I believe it’s more important than ever to preserve and teach its foundations. Hip hop is not just a dance style. It’s a powerful cultural force that continues to shape how we move, create, and connect as a society.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road as a dancer hasn’t always been easy, especially navigating the expectations and assumptions society places on male dancers. On top of that, I’ve faced personal challenges, including periods of lost inspiration, particularly in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just as I began to rediscover that spark, I made the decision to relocate to a new city, which meant starting over rebuilding connections, seeking new opportunities, and reestablishing myself in an unfamiliar environment. It’s been a difficult journey, filled with both setbacks and growth.

I remain grateful. Grateful to still be doing what I love, and even more driven to pour that passion into my work, my students, and the culture that continues to inspire me every day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a movement mentor who helps dancers build confidence and self-esteem through hip hop. My teaching focuses on movement quality, performance, and presence I empower dancers to command any room they enter. I start with strong foundations and train students of all ages, from 5 years old to adults. In just one year of living in Houston, I’ve worked with schools, studios, conventions, and more impacting dancers from all walks of life. Meeting people and hearing their stories brings me joy, because it reminds me of how connected we all are. Coming from humble beginnings, it means everything to now be a source of inspiration to others proof that where you start doesn’t define how far you can go.

How do you think about happiness?
Talking to people makes me happy because I’m constantly reminded of how similar we all are as people it gives me a real sense of connection. Meeting people from different walks of life brings me joy, and being an inspiration to others means even more knowing the humble place I came from.
