Check Out Aaron Travis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Travis.

Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started dancing at the age of 4, with tap as my very first style. Even then, I had the same personality I have today, always wanting to move, create, and be surrounded by people.

As I continued training, my passion for dance opened countless doors. Over the years, I earned numerous awards and scholarships, and eventually built a career working in the commercial dance industry.

Today, I am a dancer and choreographer based in Houston, working throughout Texas and continuing to share my love for movement, performance, and artistic growth with dancers of all ages.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up, the road wasn’t always easy. Being a male dancer wasn’t the norm where I came from, and most of my peers were focused on sports. At first, it was difficult to fit in, but as I got older, I became known as “Aaron, the dancer,” and my passion for dance became something people respected. The achievements, awards, and opportunities I earned helped others see dance in a different light.

After COVID, however, I stepped away from dancing. The state of the industry at the time left me feeling disconnected, and I completely lost my spark. For nearly two years, I hardly danced at all. When I finally decided to return, the journey back wasn’t easy. Rebuilding my confidence, conditioning, and love for dance took time, but it ultimately reminded me why I fell in love with it in the first place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hip hop and street dance educator whose mission is to bridge the gap between authentic street dance foundations and industry-ready artistry. I work with schools, studios, and artists to help dancers develop not only their skills, but also their confidence, creativity, and understanding of the culture behind the movement.

What sets me apart is my ability to build genuine rapport with the people I teach. I strive to create an environment where dancers feel safe to make mistakes, take risks, and grow. Above all, I want my students to truly enjoy the art form and develop a lasting love for dance.

One of my proudest accomplishments is the reputation I’ve built within the Texas dance community. Through hard work, consistency, and a commitment to excellence, I’ve been able to establish myself as a respected educator, choreographer, and mentor throughout the state.

I’m also grateful for my ability to find inspiration in almost anything. Whether it’s music, people, life experiences, or other art forms, inspiration is everywhere, and it keeps me motivated to create and innovate consistently.

Most importantly, I’m proud of taking ownership of my own path and building Be The Star Lab, my pre-professional development company. Through Be The Star Lab, I help aspiring dancers gain the training, knowledge, and industry insight needed to pursue careers in the commercial dance industry and become the stars they are meant to be.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me most happy is meeting new people. Every new connection comes with a unique perspective, story, and energy. I love building relationships and learning from others. There’s always this fresh and positive energy that I feel when meeting new people.
