Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Yunger.
Hi Adrienne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I got started in fashion began at an early age styling my sisters in fabric and scarfs and putting together imaginary photo shoots. I attended the University of Texas at Austin to study fashion design and retail merchandising, and then transferred to the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, where I received a BA in Fashion Management and Design. Upon graduating, I moved to New York and was employed with CK-Jeans and assisted in several fashion shows, including a Vera Wang bridal show.
I moved back to Texas to start a family in 2001, worked as a bridal buyer assistant, fashion design instructor, and was a production manager for Dos Carolinas. I started as a freelance designer for Southeastern Performance Apparel in 2016 and I am now their full time lead designer. In my spare time, I create custom designs for clients. My designs have been featured in major fashion shows in the Southern US, including Charleston Fashion Week 2017, South Walton Fashion Week 2015 & 2016, and Fashion X Houston, Dallas and Austin. I was awarded the BERNINA Austin Fashion Week Fund in 2015 and won the Mash-Up team Critics Choice Award 2015.
In 2019, I received the San Antonio Fashion Award for Women’s wear Designer of the Year. I was also nominated again this year for Texas Fashion Week Women’s wear Designer of the Year 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not. Trying to raise three boys, working full time, and maintaining a fashion career has been a struggle. Luckily my family will help out with taking care of them if I am out of town. Lots of sewing in the middle of the night after kids have gone to bed. I also work out of my garage so sometimes the heat is unbearable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I design women’s wear and sometimes menswear custom apparel. I use to do bridal separates but wanted to work with other colors other than white. I am starting to design for pro boxers in San Antonio. I am most proud of the fact that I can work from home and do what I love. I design Show Choir and concert clothing for Southeastern Performance Apparel. They distribute catalogs to schools all over the US. What sets me apart in my clothing designs is that I do not take it too seriously. My clothing is fun and exciting!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was going to Monterrey, Mexico for the summer. I would take the Greyhound bus with my grandma. Then I would play with my cousins at their ranch in the mountains. We would go explore and play in the pool everyday and walk to the local bodega and charge up whatever snacks we wanted.
