Check Out Anthony Scott’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Scott.

Hi Anthony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was raised in a military household where discipline and structure weren’t just values — they were a way of life. That foundation, combined with my background as an athlete, instilled in me a mindset of hard work, focus, and consistency. I accepted my call to preach in 2003 at the age of 17, and that experience opened my eyes to purpose and leadership. I went on to study psychology at Prairie View A&M University, which gave me a deeper understanding of people and what drives them. Altogether, those experiences have shaped who I am today — a person who values faith, discipline, and the development of others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey. Starting that young meant I had to grow and lead at the same time. I was a mentor, with a mentor. I was learning how to live and how to lead all at once. There was always this pressure to be ‘on,’ to make the right decisions, to set the right example — even while I was still figuring things out myself.

Not wanting to fail publicly created a lot of private battles for me. When you’re young and in leadership, there’s pressure to always get it right. That fear can lead to quiet struggles — wrestling with doubt, perfection, and expectations. But I’ve learned that growth often happens in those private moments. Failure doesn’t define you; it develops you.

But that process shaped me. I learned that leadership isn’t about having it all together; it’s about growing while guiding others, learning while leading, and staying consistent even when it’s uncomfortable. So while the journey hasn’t been easy, it’s been worth it. Every challenge, every lesson, and every moment of growth has molded me into who I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear several hats — I’m a teacher, coach, CEO, and pastor. At the core of it all, I’m a builder of people. I believe my spiritual walk deeply influences how I show up in my secular work. I’m known throughout my district as an energetic coach who thrives on building relationships and inspiring young men to become the best versions of themselves. By removing excuses and addressing cultural barriers, I help every student see that they can thrive no matter where they come from.

What I’m most proud of is being part of transforming our campus from an F-rated to a B-rated (and still climbing) school. That progress reflects what happens when you set high expectations, create structure, and believe in the potential of every child. Watching boys rise to meet the standard — and exceed their own expectations — is what fuels me every day.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about our city is its culture and diversity. There’s so much history, richness, and personality here — every neighborhood has its own story, and I enjoy being part of that. What I like least is how difficult it can be to get information out or gain visibility. No matter how impactful the work is, sometimes it feels like it goes unnoticed. Houston is such a large city that without the right connections or relationships, it can feel like you don’t exist. That can be challenging at times, but it also pushes me to keep building bridges and creating meaningful connections.
