Check Out Ashley Brand’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Brand.

Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been photographing for as long as I can remember! Starting off with my love for 35mm cameras as a young girl, which was introduced to me by my grandfather, Armando Bermudez, Sr. He was a big staple in the Houston community and is dearly missed. I hope to continue his legacy for my family by capturing beautiful families in our city and beyond. I haven’t always done photography full-time; for the past 8 years, I spent my days as a social worker. I worked tirelessly to assist those in need while also volunteering my time as a photographer to help capture memories for those in foster care. After having my second blessing last year, I made the decision to stay home with my girls and create a livelihood from my hobby. This is just a small summary about me and my love for this craft.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Photography has always been my escape, my way to relax and capture memories of my family. Just like most families, mine has experienced many trials, but together we have gotten through them. It was not an easy decision to leave my full-time job with the state of Texas. I loved working with youth, and I was sad to leave; however, God placed it in my heart to not return from maternity leave. I have kept my faith in Him and myself to grow this hobby into a business. Going from a two-income household to one has been a big leap, but I know that I have made the right decision for my family. This may not be a physical struggle, but it has definitely challenged me mentally. Working for yourself is rewarding but very time-consuming. The most difficult has been learning to juggle being a full-time mom and running a business. I am still learning along the way, and continue to be excited for this new journey and what it will bring.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional photographer in Houston, TX. I specialize in portrait photography, anything from capturing those sweet new babies to updating family portraits. I am known for my creativity both behind the camera and with every kind of project that comes my way! I am a lover of anything crafty and home projects! As some would say, the queen of DIY. Whether we are in the studio or the beautiful outdoors, I am ready to capture your timeless memories! Personally, I am most proud of the beautiful family that my husband and I have created. I am a mama of two beautiful girls and the luckiest wife! My family is my whole world. Professionally I am most proud of believing in myself enough to take this leap of faith and taking my business full-time.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I have a few favorite memories, but the ones that come to mind are the memories of making art and camping at the frio river. I was always participating in art contests in grade school, making mosaics with glass, painting, drawing, or crating things. It was and still is my happy place. Camping at the Frio was brutal during the Texas summer heat, but jumping into that cold river water was the best! We got to spend quality time together as a family, which is most important to me.
