Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Brown
Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Certainly! My journey started with a deep passion for design and an appreciation for the way details can transform a space. I’ve always believed that the right window treatments have the power to elevate any room by balancing functionality and beauty. That belief led me to dive into the world of custom window solutions, where I discovered the importance of tailoring every treatment to fit both the aesthetic and practical needs of a client.
Over time, I immersed myself in learning everything about fabrics, hardware, light control, and design trends, and began building relationships with skilled artisans and suppliers. As my experience grew, so did my commitment to offering personalized solutions that go beyond cookie-cutter designs. I’ve worked with homeowners, designers, and businesses to create everything from sleek modern shades to elegant, layered draperies that make a statement.
Where I am today is the result of hard work, collaboration, and a focus on delivering not just a product but a complete experience. My goal has always been to help people reimagine their spaces and showcase how custom window treatments can add warmth, style, and personality to their homes. Every project continues to be an opportunity to create something special, and that’s what keeps me inspired.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every challenge has been an opportunity to grow and refine what I do. One of the biggest struggles early on was educating clients about the value of custom window treatments compared to off-the-shelf options. Many people didn’t realize how much of a difference tailored solutions could make in terms of functionality, aesthetics, and long-term quality. It took time and effort to communicate that custom treatments are an investment in their home’s overall comfort and style.
Another challenge was navigating the logistics of sourcing high-quality materials and ensuring every detail of the design and installation met the high standards I set for myself. There were moments of trial and error, especially in the beginning, where I had to learn how to balance creative vision with practical execution. From ensuring accurate measurements to troubleshooting unexpected installation issues, every project came with its own learning curve.
Finally, staying ahead of trends in design and technology has required constant adaptation. Innovations like motorization and smart home integration have transformed the industry, so keeping up with these advancements has been both exciting and challenging. But through it all, the lessons learned from these struggles have allowed me to grow my expertise, refine my processes, and ultimately deliver a better experience for my clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the core of what I do is creating custom window treatments that transform spaces. I specialize in designing tailored solutions that seamlessly combine function and style—whether it’s light control, privacy, energy efficiency, or simply adding that perfect finishing touch to a room. My work includes everything from motorized shades and plantation shutters to custom drapery and layered treatments, with a strong focus on personalization to meet each client’s unique needs.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and commitment to the full experience. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions; instead, I take the time to truly understand a client’s vision, lifestyle, and space before creating a design. Whether it’s sourcing the perfect fabric, selecting complementary hardware, or ensuring flawless installation, every step of the process is carefully considered. I also stay ahead of industry trends and technology, offering options like motorized systems and smart-home integration to elevate both form and function.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with clients over the years. Hearing how a window treatment transformed not just their room but how they feel in their home is incredibly rewarding. Those moments—when clients realize how much impact the right design can have—are why I love what I do.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to merge creativity with practicality. I bring a designer’s eye, but I’m equally focused on ensuring that every treatment is as functional as it is beautiful. At the end of the day, it’s about creating a solution that enhances a client’s space and makes their life better, all while delivering a level of service that feels personal and professional.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For anyone just starting out in the world of custom window treatments or design, my biggest piece of advice is to focus on mastering the fundamentals. Understanding the practical aspects—such as proper measuring techniques, fabric properties, hardware types, and installation methods—is just as important as having a great design eye. The technical side of this work can make or break a project, so never underestimate the importance of precision and quality craftsmanship.
Another key piece of advice is to prioritize building relationships. This is a relationship-driven industry, whether it’s with clients, vendors, installers, or designers. Take the time to truly listen to your clients’ needs and preferences. Often, people don’t know exactly what they want, so it’s your role to guide them and show them the possibilities. Strong relationships will not only help you grow your business but also give you invaluable insights along the way.
One thing I wish I knew earlier was how important it is to educate clients about the value of custom work. Many people will compare custom treatments to mass-produced options without realizing the difference in quality, durability, and the level of personalization they’re getting. I’ve learned over time to communicate that value clearly and confidently.
Finally, be adaptable and open to learning. Design trends and technology in window treatments are always evolving—motorization and smart-home integration, for example, have become incredibly popular in recent years. Staying curious and willing to learn will help you stay ahead of the curve and offer your clients the best solutions available.
And most importantly, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and refine your skills. Be patient with yourself, take pride in your work, and trust that your passion will show through in the designs you create.
