Check Out Asia G.’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia G.

Hi Asia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Houston, Texas, in 2006. After the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, I found the inspiration to create BlackGyrlWorld. Rebuilding my life after the hurricane was challenging and taught me to never take anything for granted.

As a Black woman navigating life, I started blogging and vlogging to share my experiences. This was the launch of my website www.blackgyrlworld.com. Life is like a puzzle, and while I don’t have it all figured out, each experience helps me see more clearly.

Hurricane Harvey had a significant impact on me, resulting in the loss of my home, car, and belongings. The flooding affected Houston and its surrounding areas severely. Initially, finding answers and resources was extremely difficult. This inspired me to create a platform to share resources, content, music, and business services, aiming to help others avoid the obstacles I faced.

During the recovery, I witnessed the strength and unity of the community. Volunteers, agencies, and local organizations provided essential guidance and resources, and their kindness left a lasting impression on me.

Life presents challenges to everyone, and while your journey may not involve a natural disaster, we all saw during the pandemic of 2020 how important the need to adapt quickly to changes can be. I hope visitors to my website and platforms find something useful to apply in their lives or share with loved ones.

If just one of my posts helps someone build or improve a business, innovate ideas, find resources, try something new, or avoid a negative experience, I will have achieved my goal of giving back and helping others✨.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The idea came to me in 2017, but I didn’t start until 2020. Navigating the process of starting a business during such uncertain times was challenging. There were not a lot of places open during the pandemic, and trying to find resources to help people at that time was not easy. Despite these obstacles, I have learned so much along the way and continue to grow every day.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in providing valuable resources and information to both the community and my peers. My reviews on platforms such as Google, Yelp, and various social media channels have built a solid reputation. I am proud of my ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and build lasting relationships.

What sets me apart is my unique style of showcasing people, events, venues, and experiences. I use a combination of vlogs, photos, and traditional blogs to present an authentic view through my lens, allowing my audience to fully experience what I share. I enjoy capturing special moments that create lasting memories for everyone involved.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom, dad, sisters, and close friends have been incredibly supportive throughout my journey. They encouraged me to take risks and provided invaluable suggestions and feedback at every stage. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
