Check Out Atlanta Ellington’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Atlanta Ellington

Hi Atlanta, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I descended into a small but mighty city on the bluff of the Mississippi River on the summer solstice. Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee—home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll—instilled in me a deep sense of hustle and grit. This vibrant city shaped my identity with its vast history and rich culture. Coming from a large family of hard workers, guided by faith, may have led me east after high school to the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) (GO VOLS!). At UT, I was pre-med, majoring in food science and technology with a minor in women’s studies. While my upbringing was rooted in the church, my spiritual awakening intensified once I left the nest.

My journey took me through various fields—retail, the food industry, bartending, and more. Although I had a clear goal and path, life’s complexities led me to follow my passion. I became a licensed cosmetologist, and my story took flight from there. At just 22, I ventured into salon management, a challenging yet transformative experience that molded me into the multifaceted creative I am today. Currently, I am in the thick of my manifestations, Residing in Houston, TX, managing a fantastic salon in the Heights. I always focus on service—identifying and meeting needs for the collective good is at the core of everything I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has certainly not been smooth, but I’ve always believed that obstacles are opportunities in disguise. I’ve had to navigate through anxiety, loss, and sudden changes more times than I can count. Over a span of two years, I lost several family members, one of whom was like a father to me and a spiritual guide. That period was incredibly challenging, and it tested my strength in ways I never imagined.

Despite the difficulties, I’ve faced every challenge head-on, even when fear was present. Mental health has been a priority in my life, so much so that I’ve been seeing a therapist since 2016. This ongoing commitment to my mental well-being has been crucial in helping me process these experiences, maintain resilience, and continue to grow personally and professionally.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear several hats in my professional life, each reflecting a different facet of my passions and skills. Currently, I manage a salon bar concept, blending creativity with the art of customer service. In addition to that, I run an e-commerce tea business called Alkhemi Tea Co., which allows me to share my love for holistic wellness through carefully curated blends. I also host the Alkhemi HonestTea podcast, which I’m excited to be relaunching this winter, where I engage in honest conversations about personal growth, spirituality, and transformation.

One of my most fulfilling roles is as a sound bowl therapist. Through this practice, I’ve had the privilege of helping people transmute the pains of their past and unlock a new sense of peace. I’m known for my presence and ability to connect with people from all walks of life, which I deeply value.

I’m most proud of my ability to reinvent myself and nurture my metamorphosis consistently. This continuous growth and transformation journey is at the core of everything I do. What sets me apart from others is not just my dedication to these various endeavors but the tangible results I achieve. Whether it’s in business, therapy, or personal connections, I’m driven by the outcomes I can create and the impact I can make.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
On April 7, 2014, I wrote in my manifestation journal, “I WILL MOVE TO HOUSTON, TX,” and ten years later, that dream became a reality. . There’s a unique blend of cultures, ideas, and backgrounds that create a dynamic atmosphere here in Houston, which is incredibly inspiring. The energy here is palpable, and it fosters a sense of creativity and possibility that I really resonate with. I also appreciate the opportunities the city provides for both personal and professional growth. One of the things I love most about Houston is its vibrancy and diversity. The city has a dynamic atmosphere that’s constantly buzzing with energy, fueled by a thriving economy, world-class museums, amazing food and a wealth of opportunities. The presence of so many professionals from different fields creates an inspiring environment that motivates me to keep pushing forward in my own journey.

However, if there’s one thing I like the least, it’s the traffic. Houston’s roads can be quite the challenge, and if you miss a turn, it sometimes feels like you might as well drive all the way to Mexico! Despite that, the city’s many positives far outweigh this one downside.
