Check Out Audrianna Woods’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrianna Woods.

Hi Audrianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always artistic but never really dove into it more until I was in my early 20s. Painting started off as a hobby for me, it was fun for me and I enjoyed being creative. I very slowly started to paint more and more and I remember the first time I posted my art and somebody wanted to buy it, and after that, I was really motivated to keep going! And that’s exactly what I did, I continued to practice painting and putting my art on social media and slowly started to gain followers and business, two years after I started painting I was able to go full time and I have now been full time for almost three years!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working for myself is very scary, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. To this day it is still a challenge being a full time artist. My income depends on how much I paint and how much work I put in, there are always dry seasons, times where I’m creatively stuck, times where I’m forced to paint because I need the money, I’m constantly under the pressure to build my business and do more because there a nobody else to do it for me. I have had to prove to myself and others over and over that I can follow my dreams and be an artist for a living and be successful at it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My artwork is for the most part acrylic on canvas, my style is very Afro centric with an earthy vibe. My artwork represents really the things I love in life and I believe is a reflection of myself. I’m known for my unique style and colors I use to paint a picture my community can vibe and relate to. I’m most of proud of representing who I am and what I love and showing other artists you can follow your dreams no matter what society says.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to finding a mentor or networking it’s all about putting yourself out there and socializing with others especially others in the same field as you. Going to events, meeting other artists, following other artists on social media and just really trying to be active in the art world. This is something I’m definitely still working on since I’m not a very social person. But the amazing people I have met these past three years in the art world have definitely helped me along the way. It’s great to have a community of people who understand what your going through!
