Check Out Austin Eisenring’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Eisenring

Hi Austin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It really all begins in my senior year of high school. I didn’t know what I wanted to do after that, no real drive to do anything specific, so as a last minute addition to my senior schedule, I take a video shooting and editing class for one of my electives. Next thing you know, I’m in love with it, enjoying every moment and realizing this is where I want to be. Then came my last year of community college, needed one more elective course. I scroll through the list and find an introduction to photography course, so I sign up. They required the use of a real camera, not our phones, so one camera later, I’m out and about shooting anything and everything to learn how to use it, then slowly start dialing it in as the years go on. It’s been about three years since then, and I was able to start learning more about how I shoot, how I edit, and overall what I want to see in the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely learning how to shoot the camera and understanding how everything works in manual controls compared to the automatic button. But besides the physical learning of it, knowing what I want to shoot is another major one. It was difficult to know what would be something I wanted to photograph and what would be something that’s not as interesting as something else. Eventually I was able to narrow that groove and get myself into a spot I can use for my inspiration.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So currently I am a freelance photographer, videographer, and video editor. My photography focuses mostly on portrait photography, but I also poke around in landscape photography as well. As for videography and editing, there’s no exact details on what I shoot and edit, it really just depends on the ideas people share with me for their project.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
If you’re into portrait photography, go out to concerts and just walk around. You’ll either get really great shots of the bands, or someone in the crowd will be interested in you and try to reach out. It’s how I started and it couldn’t be any better.
