Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Starting The Balloon Lady HTX has been a remarkable journey that has beautifully intertwined my passion for creating beauty with my responsibilities as a single mom. From a young age, I’ve always found joy in transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary ones, using creativity to bring visions to life. This passion found a new outlet when a close friend, who had her own event decorating business, decided to move on to a new venture. She encouraged me to take the leap and start my own business believing in my talent and vision.
As a single mom in a challenging economy, I was eager to find a way to generate extra income that could also involve my child. The Balloon Lady HTX was born out of necessity and passion. Initially, the business started slowly, but with persistence and dedication it has grown steadily. The journey has been filled with challenges, especially balancing my full time job, on call responsibilities, school commitments, and my daughter’s extracurricular activities. Despite these hurdles we manage, and the rewards have been incredible.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of running The Balloon Lady HTX is witnessing my clients’ joy when their vision becomes reality. Every event we decorate is a unique opportunity to create moments of beauty and happiness, and seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces make all the hard work worthwhile. Involving my daughter in the business has also been a wonderful experience, allowing her to see firsthand the value of creativity, hard work, and entrepreneurship.
As I continue to take on new projects I look forward to creating more beautiful memories.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting The Balloon Lady HTX hasn’t always been a smooth process. Creating beauty is something I naturally enjoy, I’ve often struggled with charging appropriately for my services. There have been times when I know I undercharged, which has been a learning experience for me.
However, as I’ve continued to develop and try new techniques. I’ve found ways to use supplies more efficiently. This not only maximizes my clients’ savings but also improves my own profitability. Balancing the love for what do with practicalities of running a business has been challenging, but ultimately rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The sky’s the limit when it comes to the projects I can take on. While I mostly get asked for quotes on balloon garlands and backdrops, I’m also skilled in creating standard and organic columns. I’ve recently branched out into centerpieces and hope to expand further by offering rentals such as decorative chairs, stands, and displays to enhance the overall aesthetic of each event.
I’m currently working on developing a tiered package system to accommodate all budgets, with the level of detail and customization determining the price of each package. This way, I can offer something special for every client regardless of their budget. I’m excited about these new developments and can’t wait to bring more beautiful creations to life for my clients.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to be transparent with pricing and encourage clients to be transparent with their budgets. Honesty truly is the best policy. I’d rather explain to a client what I can do within their budget, leading to a happy, hopefully repeat client, rather than have them walk away discouraged or frustrated. This approach fosters trust and satisfaction, ensuring that both my clients and I are on the same page from the start.
