Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Aguilar
Brandon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Prior to the spring of 2020, I had minimal experience with painting. However, I began my artistic journey as a self-taught artist during the quarantine period at my home in Katy, TX. Initially, my work was influenced by my interests in sports and various music icons. I later attended Sam Houston State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree and a teaching certificate. Throughout my artistic development, I continuously sought to answer a critical question: What distinguishes both myself and my artwork within the art world? In my final semester, I pursued an independent study in which I explored the concept of painting with found objects. Today, my artwork continues to evolve with this approach, integrating the materials I use into a cohesive narrative that connects both the medium and the message.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Identifying what sets my artwork apart through my unique style proved to be a challenge. Throughout my life, I have admired numerous artists and the qualities that distinguish them with other artists. I placed my trust in God for guidance, and it was only after fully embracing the profound significance of my independent study during my final semester of college that I discovered what I had been searching for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am recognized for creating portraits using found materials in place of traditional paintbrushes. I have developed a unique style that sets me apart from other artists, not only through the subjects I paint but also in how I incorporate diverse materials that directly relate to the artwork. I take great pride in sharing my work through various commissions, including those for notable individuals such as CJ Stroud and Henry To’o To’o of the Houston Texans, former Green Bay Packer Terrence Murphy, and Reality of Wrestling Male Superstar of the Year, Zilla Fatu.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My trust in God is what is most important to my success, I follow a verse in the Bible that motivates me everyday and it states
“But as for you, be strong; don’t give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
2 Chronicles 15:7
