Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Surrett.
Hi brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Brandon Surrett, and I’m 29 years old. I was born and raised in Texas, and from a young age I’ve always been drawn to working with my hands. Whether it was taking things apart, learning new skills, or spending time around cars, I’ve always enjoyed figuring out how things work and finding ways to make them better.
My passion for the automotive world started early. As a teenager I got into detailing, paint correction, vinyl wraps, and paint protection film. What began as a hobby eventually became my career, and over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to turn that passion into something I get to do every day. I currently work in the automotive appearance industry, helping customers protect and preserve vehicles while continuing to learn and grow with every project.
Outside of work, drifting became the passion that pushed me to challenge myself even further. Building my 2006 Mustang GT has been one of the biggest learning experiences of my life. I’ve done much of the work myself, including rebuilding the engine after a major timing failure. There were moments when it would’ve been easier to give up, but every setback became another opportunity to learn. That project has taught me patience, perseverance, and confidence in my own abilities.
Not everything in my life has been easy. I’ve experienced personal loss, made mistakes, and had to overcome challenges that shaped who I am today. Those experiences gave me a different perspective on life and taught me the importance of resilience, growth, and appreciating the people around you.
Today, my biggest motivation is my family. My wife and our children inspire everything I do. They remind me why I continue working toward my goals—not just to build fast cars or grow a business, but to create a life I’m proud of and show my kids that success comes from consistency, hard work, and refusing to quit when things get difficult.
Through Surrett Motorsports, I hope to share more than just drifting content. I want to document the entire journey—the wins, the failures, the late nights in the garage, and everything in between. My goal is to build a community that appreciates authenticity and understands that every accomplishment is built on countless hours of unseen work.
I’m still at the beginning of my story, but I’m excited to see where this journey leads. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that success rarely happens overnight. It’s built one decision, one lesson, and one day at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but looking back, those obstacles are what shaped me. Like many people getting into motorsports, I didn’t have the budget to build or maintain a drift car right away. Instead of giving up on the dream, I invested in a racing simulator. For years I spent countless hours practicing car control, learning racing lines, and developing driving habits that I hoped would eventually translate to the real world.
At the time, I received plenty of criticism from people who thought I was wasting time playing a “video game.” What they didn’t see was that it was the most affordable way for me to stay connected to the sport while continuing to learn. When I finally got behind the wheel of a real drift car, that foundation made the transition much easier than I ever expected.
Financial limitations have been one of the biggest challenges throughout my journey. There have been times when progress was slow because I simply couldn’t afford the next part or upgrade. Instead of seeing that as a setback, I learned to be resourceful, tackle projects myself, and appreciate every small step forward.
Even today, challenges still come up. My Mustang has tested me more than once, including rebuilding the engine after a major failure. Moments like that can either make you quit or make you better. For me, they’ve reinforced the idea that success isn’t about having the biggest budget—it’s about staying committed, continuing to learn, and refusing to let temporary setbacks define your future
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve spent most of my career in the automotive appearance industry, specializing in paint protection film (PPF), detailing, paint correction, and vehicle enhancement. I genuinely enjoy helping people preserve something they’ve worked hard for, whether it’s a daily driver or a dream build. There’s a lot of satisfaction in taking a vehicle and making it look its absolute best while protecting it for years to come.
Outside of my career, I’m building Surrett Motorsports, a brand centered around drifting, motorsports, and sharing the journey behind it all. I enjoy documenting everything—from rebuilding my Mustang in my garage to learning new driving techniques and creating content that hopefully encourages others to chase their own goals, even if they’re starting with limited resources.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m always trying to learn. If I don’t know how to do something, I’ll spend the time researching, practicing, and developing that skill until I understand it. That mindset has helped me grow not only as a technician but also as a driver, content creator, and entrepreneur.
What I’m most proud of isn’t any single accomplishment—it’s building a life around something I’m genuinely passionate about. Every partnership I’ve earned, every customer who trusts me with their vehicle, and every lap in my Mustang represents years of hard work, patience, and persistence. I’m still a long way from where I want to be, but I’m excited to keep building both my career and Surrett Motorsports one step at a time.
What does success mean to you?
Success has changed a lot for me over the years. When I was younger, I thought success was measured by trophies, expensive cars, or having a big following. Today, I see it very differently.
To me, success means building a life where I can provide for my family while doing something I’m genuinely passionate about. It’s being able to come home to my wife and kids knowing I gave my best that day, whether I was working on a customer’s vehicle, creating content, or turning wrenches on my own Mustang in the garage.
I also believe success is measured by growth. If I’m a better husband, father, technician, driver, or person than I was a year ago, then I’m moving in the right direction. I don’t compare my journey to anyone else’s because everyone starts from a different place.
Ultimately, I hope my story shows that you don’t need unlimited resources or the perfect circumstances to pursue your dreams. If I can inspire someone to keep going despite setbacks, then that’s a success I’m incredibly proud of.
