Check Out Candance Clay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candance Clay.

Hi Candance, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Heka Herbal because I was honestly trying to help a close family member who was really sick and wasn’t getting much relief through Western medicine at the time. Watching that up close was frustrating and honestly eye-opening. It pushed me to start researching on my own because I didn’t feel like I had anything else to turn to that was actually helping.
Like most people, I went down the Google rabbit hole and started learning everything I could about herbs and natural support. I began making small blends and remedies just to see what would actually make a difference. What surprised me was that some of these simple things were helping more than I expected.
Around the same time, I realized I was dealing with my own version of it too — that constant overstimulated, on-edge feeling where your nervous system just never fully shuts off. Working around healthcare settings, I also saw how common stress, anxiety, and burnout really were for people, even if it wasn’t always talked about directly.
So what started as something personal slowly turned into something I was sharing with other people. And once I saw how many people were dealing with the same nervous system overload, it became clear this wasn’t just about me or my family — it was something a lot of people needed support with in a real, simple way.
That’s how Heka Herbal grew. Not from a business plan, but from trying to create something that actually helped people feel more grounded in their everyday lives. Today, I’m still building it step by step with that same intention — nervous system support that feels realistic, gentle, and actually usable in the middle of real life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

One of the biggest challenges has been figuring everything out while building it from the ground up. I didn’t come into this with a background in business or product development, so a lot of it has been trial and error—learning how to source ingredients, test formulations, figure out packaging, branding, and then on top of that, actually trying to sell it and get people to understand what Heka Herbal even is.

Another challenge has been staying consistent when things move slowly. There are moments where you put a lot of energy into something and it feels like it’s not going anywhere yet—no immediate results, no instant traction. That can mess with your confidence if you’re not careful. I’ve had to really learn how to trust the process and keep going even when it feels quiet.

There’s also the challenge of educating people. Nervous system support and herbal wellness aren’t always things people immediately understand or prioritize, so a big part of the journey has been learning how to communicate it in a simple, relatable way without overwhelming people or sounding too “clinical.”

And honestly, balancing life while building this has been real too. This isn’t something I built in a perfect, organized environment—it’s been built in between work, responsibilities, and just everyday life happening.

But even with all of that, every challenge has pushed me to get clearer, more intentional, and more grounded in what Heka Herbal is actually about. It’s been slow, but it’s been real—and that’s what’s kept me going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the founder and creator behind Heka Herbal, a wellness brand focused on nervous system support, overstimulation, and everyday stress relief through herbal remedies.
My work comes from a mix of self-education, personal health experiences, and real-life problem solving. I spent a lot of time in and out of doctor’s offices for my own health, and over time I became very familiar with that cycle of not always getting clear answers or lasting relief. That experience pushed me to start looking for other ways to support my body in a more gentle, consistent way.
That’s where herbs came in. I’m self-taught in formulation and started by creating small blends for myself—teas, oils, and simple remedies focused on calming the nervous system, easing tension, and helping my body feel more regulated day to day. What began as personal support slowly turned into something I shared with other people going through similar things.
What I specialize in is making nervous system support feel simple and realistic. Not overwhelming routines or overly clinical approaches—just grounded tools people can actually use when they’re stressed, overstimulated, or burnt out from everyday life.
What I’m most proud of is that Heka Herbal came directly from lived experience. It wasn’t created from a trend or a business idea first—it was built from trying to find relief, figuring things out step by step, and realizing I wasn’t the only one needing that kind of support.
What sets me apart is that I approach wellness from a very real-life place. I understand what it feels like when your body is constantly in overdrive, and everything I create is made with that in mind—simple, supportive, and actually usable in the middle of real life.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that healing and building something meaningful both take a lot more time and patience than you think in the beginning.

At first, I used to want things to work quickly—find the right formula, the right product, the right moment where everything just clicks. But over time I realized it doesn’t really work like that. It’s more about consistency, listening to feedback (from your body, your customers, and the process itself), and being willing to adjust without losing your core purpose.

I also learned that simplicity matters more than perfection. In the beginning, I overthought a lot—trying to make things too complicated or “perfect” before sharing them. But the truth is, people connect most with things that feel real, usable, and honest. The simplest blends or ideas often ended up being the most effective.

Another big lesson has been trusting my own intuition. There’s so much information out there about wellness and business that it can get overwhelming. I had to learn how to filter through that and stay grounded in what actually feels right and works in real life, not just what sounds good on paper.

Overall, I’ve learned that growth isn’t linear. It’s messy, slow at times, and very personal—but if you stay consistent and honest about why you started, it keeps moving forward in its own way.
