Check Out Carolyn Karr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Karr.

Carolyn Karr

Hi Carolyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Michigan, and after earning a civil engineering degree from the University of Michigan, I commissioned as an Officer in the United States Air Force. I served 4 years on Active Duty at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam with roles ranging from the Base Commander’s Executive Assistant to Construction Manager. After separating from active duty military in 2018, I moved to Houston, and I went on to join the corporate world as an engineer. After a couple years, however, I decided to jump into something I was much more passionate about and started full-time in Real Estate in 2020.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not! I would say branching out on your own and making an industry change will always present challenges. For me, one of the biggest struggles has been not getting in my own way or allowing societal pressures to affect my decisions. As someone with a military and corporate background, a stable job with good benefits was engrained in me. It was terrifying to take the leap of faith required to leave that background behind for a career that does not always offer these benefits. It also was a challenge to set aside an engineering degree that I spent years working towards. I am so fortunate for my experiences in the military and the corporate world. They gave me the opportunity to develop so many skills that I bring to my real estate business every day and allow me to continuously elevate the level of service I provide to my clients.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel so blessed to be a Realtor in the Houston Area, specializing on inner loop neighborhoods. I work with all buyers, sellers, and renters, but there’s a special place in my heart for first-time home buyers. I approach every transaction with enthusiasm and dedication to my client’s needs. With a military background, I feel I bring an unmatched level of customer service and exceptional organizational skills. Being a pushy salesperson is not in my nature. Instead, I approach every situation with kindness to help my clients move towards their goals. The thing I am most proud with my business is how so many of my amazing clients have truly become good friends.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
The most important resource that helps me do my best in life is my family and friends. The love and support of my husband, Grant, and our two dogs, Nani and Dolly, makes me want to be a better person each day.

For work, there are 3 apps that I am constantly using. HAR, Instagram, and Outlook. Houston has an amazing resource with HAR which provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date real estate information. On Instagram, I love to share a little bit of what it is like to be a full-time Realtor, along with a little bit of my personal life. I also love seeing and interacting with all my friends and family through the platform. To keep myself on track day-to-day, I live by my digital calendar. Everything from work appointments social events, and small reminders get plugged in.
