Check Out Chase Mazur’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Mazur

Hi Chase, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting about 5 years ago as the little brother on the sidelines with a camera for my sister’s sporting games, I’ve been able to turn this hobby into a small, yet growing business. As for how I fully started, it really is just that. Starting with sports photography for my local high school about 3 years ago, I was able to create a portfolio and following for my work. Now looking at back on what I called “work” then, I can definitely say it was far from perfect. But that’s the purpose of photography. It’s not something you just pick up and are automatically great at. It takes work and experience. So, that’s what I did. Continuing to shoot many sporting events at my local high school, my older sister’s senior year finally came near. The Class of 2022 and 2023 is really what catapulted my photography. I originally just did senior portraits for my sister’s friends and some close friends I knew, but as the summer of 2023 came around, I really dove in and started taking more senior portraits and even individual and team portraits for local high school cheerleaders. Since then, I’ve continued to grow a social media presence and clientele, and have ventured into all aspects of services. I like to say if it’s something in need of capturing, I’m more than happy to take on the challenge of doing it. So, as for today, I now am pretty much year round shooting: events, like parties, company family days, and all those kinds of things; seniors; families; couples; and every now and then even a surprise proposal! It’s definitely been a fun, eye opening journey and I cannot wait to see where it will take me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To some it may be surprising since I’m only 16 and doing this, but it honestly has been a pretty smooth road and one I wouldn’t change. Being that I am mainly based in Houma, Louisiana, but make my way into the Woodlands, Texas, which is where half of my family lives, as much as I can, the communities in both areas are ones that are unimaginable. The support, help, and shoulder to lean on from both cities has not only made this journey of starting so easy, but it’s also made it extremely enjoyable and fun. And of course, I give all of the glory and thanks to God. He’s bestowed and continues to provide these amazing opportunities my way and I definitely wouldn’t be able to do it without His guidance.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I feel like I am equally known for my sports photography as I am my senior portrait photography — it’s the two niches I really love to do. I primarily focus on these two because it’s two of my biggest passions. Being able to capture the raw, candid, and storytelling emotion of an athlete or senior is something I really find so incredible and strong. A photograph can depict anything. Whether it’s a senior soaking in there last year of high school, or an athlete making an incredible achievement or goal, a photograph becomes something timeless, and that’s what makes me so proud to do what I do. Seeing and hearing my clients reactions to their photos is worth every hour shooting, every hour editing, and all those late nights curating social media posts worth every second. As for what sets me apart from others? Well, my age. Now not only do my clients receive a passionate, hardworking, and professional photographer, but most of the time they also get a friend and or someone they can relate to. Being that I mainly do seniors and high school and college sports, I’m around the same age of each client. It may not seem like a big deal, but having that common ground and comfortability with clients and myself just creates a more seamless experience on both ends, as well as just a fun, laid back, comfortable shoot.

What matters most to you?
I think what matters to me most, truthfully, is that I’m doing this because I genuinely enjoy it and am passionate about it. It may sound cliche, but I never want this business to run me, rather I, alongside my creativity and passion for the art, run the business. Since I am still a high school student, I know I still have time to grow and build, but even from day one, I always made sure what I was doing was fun, challenging in ways, but always made me happy and proud.
