Check Out Christina Vasquez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Vasquez.

Hi Christina , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have worked in the field of speech-language pathology for nearly 20 years, with experience across public schools, private schools, and home health settings. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Houston, my master’s degree from Emerson College, and my clinical research doctorate from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.

Through my clinical work, I developed a deep passion for supporting children with executive functioning challenges following traumatic brain injury (TBI). This interest led to my doctoral capstone focusing on executive functioning after pediatric TBI and ultimately inspired the creation of my private practice.

Our practice specializes exclusively in serving children recovering from pediatric traumatic brain injuries—an area of care that is significantly underserved in our community. To further support families, we provide therapy services directly within children’s daycare environments, reducing the burden on parents and allowing therapy to occur in the child’s natural, everyday setting. We are currently the only practice in our area dedicated specifically to pediatric TBI rehabilitation.

Our practice focuses on functional, real-world therapy designed to create meaningful improvements across all areas of a child’s life. By targeting skills that directly support daily routines, learning, and independence, we help children carry progress beyond therapy sessions and into home, school, and social environments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to creating this practice has been shaped by nearly two decades of learning, experience, and meaningful connections with clients and families. I take great pride in being a lifelong learner and in making the most of every professional experience. Each client and each situation offers an opportunity to grow, reflect, and improve care.

My mission is to provide truly client-centered therapy that honors each child as an individual. This work requires not only a strong and evolving knowledge base, but also cultural competence, empathy, and a genuine passion for what I do. The result—my private practice, Talk to Me Texas—is truly a dream come true. I work from the heart, guided by purpose, connection, and a deep commitment to the families I serve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud that Talk to Me Texas is the only speech therapy clinic in our area dedicated to serving the pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) population. Pediatric TBI affects a significant number of children—an estimated 2.3 million children in the United States, or approximately 3.2%, have received a concussion or brain injury diagnosis. This represents a large and diverse population with complex needs.

Children with pediatric TBI often experience challenges related to executive functioning that can impact learning, behavior, communication, and daily life. Effective intervention requires a thoughtful integration of both restorative and compensatory therapy strategies to support optimal outcomes. Our specialized approach allows us to meet children where they are, address their unique challenges, and help them build skills that carry over into all areas of their lives.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, my vision for Talk to Me Texas is to play an active role in educating the public about pediatric traumatic brain injury and the wide variability in how it can present in children. A deeper understanding of pediatric TBI is essential, as effective support often requires intervention across many aspects of a child’s life—academically, socially, emotionally, and functionally.

I hope to partner with public school systems and state agencies to help ensure that children with a history of TBI are appropriately identified and provided with the resources, accommodations, and services they need to be successful in the educational setting. Through collaboration, advocacy, and education, my goal is to help create systems of support that truly meet the complex needs of this underserved population.

As Talk to Me Texas continues to grow, I am committed to expanding our client base through ongoing networking and community partnerships while remaining rooted in high-quality, individualized care. An important part of this growth includes hosting support groups for parents, creating space for connection, education, and shared experiences as families navigate the complexities of pediatric traumatic brain injury together.
