Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Azzam.
Cynthia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2005, I went to massage therapy school just so I can help out at the spa in which I worked as an aesthetician, little did I know that I would discover my passion there and pursue massage therapy as a long-time career.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I first started my massage business as a solo provider the challenges ahead were not predicted, I thought they would not happen to me. Screening my clients was of utmost importance as opening your door to total strangers in this field was a dangerous endeavor. Back in 2006 when I first got licensed as a massage therapist we were referred to as “masseuse” and that on its own conjured up all kinds of other visions. I learned that the hard way and conquered it by quickly figuring out my boundaries and enforcing them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My massage practice evolved from my passion for the art of touching for healing. Yes, it is an art, if all you do is a mechanical routine then you will never build a repeat clientele, there are way too many massage businesses for them to come back to you. Not only do you need to shine at your craft but you need to be creative. I touch with intent, I feel my client’s energy and I feel the carefully chosen music that I play during a massage session. I have every intention to render a healing touch and to have it benefit both the client and myself.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Must be disciplined, set your boundaries, and always remain professional.
