Check Out Daphine Jack’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphine Jack.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins with my career as a Parole Officer. I protected and served the community, supervising individuals who previously dealt with the criminal justice system. Long story short I had to deal with the system with a loved one. This situation allowed me to write a book.

After retiring I because the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization dealing with individuals who were wrongfully conviction by providing a reentry program, children with an incarcerated parent, and a youth group called Young People Gathering. Also, I am the owner of Brown Jack Books, provide author and nonprofit consultant, and a podcast host of “If Emmett Was Alive Today Podcast”.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. The first struggle I experienced was the death of my mother. She passed away on Thursday, March 2, 1989, at 10:00 p.m. It took me a while to accept that she was longer with us. I had a mental breakdown. My attitude was very ugly, I felt like “God” was unfair for taking her away.

After a year passed, what she instilled in me was to do right, get my education, be kind, love God, get my education, get married, and then have children, etc… Well, I did just what she said to do and more. I became stronger, so when new struggles came I was able to persevere.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a retired parole officer, author of “The Other Side of the Story”, a collaborating bestseller author of “Boss Your Lane-Quick Guide to Turning Your Vision into a Nonprofit Organization”, parole, author, and nonprofit management consultant, and podcast host of “If Emmett Was Alive Today Podcast”. I am the creator of the Author’s Series. This is an event that I host at Texas Southern University Library Learning Center twice a year.

We have a Q&A for our local and surrounding area authors, aspiring authors, and readers. The opportunity for the authors is putting their books in the library in our reserve section for Author’s Series. The overall goal is to have a book club on campus. I specialize in my passion for criminal justice. I am a criminal justice expert. I am known for my criminal justice expertise to discuss criminal justice reform, wrongful convictions, and children with incarcerated parents.

I am very proud of being able to speak about criminal justice from both sides of the criminal justice system. Being able to encourage individuals to keep moving forward no matter what they might be facing. What sets me apart from others is that I stay in my lane when it comes to answering a question. If I don’t know the answer, I do not have a problem referring out to someone who can.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The important lesson I learned during the Covid-19 Crisis is the three p’s of life perseverance patience and persistence. The perseverance was being able to continue and adapt to the current climate of Covid and following the rules that were given to help keep me alive.

The patience was trusting the process although I didn’t know how long this crisis was going to last. Persistence came despite the crisis I found ways and collaborated with others to help drive my purpose-driven life.
