Today we’d like to introduce you to Dastana Jones.
Hi Dastana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always had a passion for beauty. I loved the transformations it enhanced on us as women, I started doing makeup in my mom’s dining room. I was a frequent shopper in Sephora where I’d go for them to show me how to apply it to myself. I use to study YouTube videos and practice with family members.
I came up with the name “Brushedbydastana” because I didn’t use beauty blenders for my applications only brushes. I grew my business by gaining the trust of clients and I started my prices very low at $20. Once I was able to build my clientele I eventually went up because now I have the knowledge and the skills to provide a better service with better quality products.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was very hard for me at one point because I was comparing my work to others I had been seeing. I use to think “Omg, I’m not applying a lot” or “ Wow, maybe I just suck and I should quit.” But once I understood we all are different as artists I was able to keep going.
I did at one point lose my love for makeup after the loss of my twins in 2021 I didn’t want to be bothered or see a make-up brush while battling postpartum. I had turned my back on what I once loved the most because I was in a sad and depressive state. Unbeknownst to me, my twin boys gave me the strength to come back and continue my passion. It’s because of them my guardian angels that I am back and booked up.

I am a natural makeup artist who believes in a little goes a long way! I am known for my applications and my skills in Cosmetology. I care about my clients and I make every appointment personal and comfortable.
