David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My wife and I have always dreamed of owning our own business. We wanted to do something we were passionate about but didn’t know what that was. I am a full-time youth pastor, so I encouraged my wife Marilyn to start pursuing her dream job; she tried nursing school but quickly realized that was not for her; she worked from home in an insurance company for a few months, and she also tried working in customer service, at last, she started looking into veterinary school since she loved being around animals more than she was about other people. I encouraged her to find a job where she could interact with animals, and she found a pet grooming trainee job; she quickly learned different hairstyles and grooming techniques and spent her whole day with cats and dogs.
After working for two years as a pet groomer, I told my wife that I wanted to invest in a pet mobile grooming business so that she could make her passion her own. Once we both decided to invest in our future, we sold our house and invested what we received into our pet mobile business. We found Zoomin Groomin and chose to purchase territories and become Zoomin Groomin franchisees. My wife quit her job to focus entirely on our business.
We love Zoomin Groomin’s support and guidance. We have the freedom and encouragement to expand our business while acquiring more grooming vans and territories. We are so glad we decided to pursue our dream of owning our own business. Our company is not about just making money but also helping our community and pet owners. We are proud that we can offer more than just a service; we offer our passion and dedication.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We looked into starting a mobile grooming business independently but quickly realized we had no idea where to begin or who to call for help. Or even how to properly use our money. After finding Zoomin Groomin, we met with a state representative, and he was able to walk us through the whole process, from applying for our business to applying for our grooming van. Zoomin Groomin answered our questions, and within two months, we were ready to start operations.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time youth pastor, so I schedule meetings with community members, organize events, and create other opportunities to connect with others. I work directly with students who come to our church building. Still, I also participate in mentorship programs when allowed to partner with organizations like FCA and after-high school clubs like Men of Honor.
As someone who works with our communities, I am proud that we can provide grooming services that benefit our customers. Different businesses offer add-on services at a higher cost. At the same time, we provide the same add-on services at a premium level for no additional cost because we know our pets are part of our families, and we understand how hard everyone works to earn an income.
