Check Out Demi Blvck’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demi Blvck.

Hi Demi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m born and raised in Memphis, TN. My brand name is Demi Blvck (pronounced Demi Black). I started designing while in college. I started altering Walmart t-shirts. (sleeves, collars, etc.) and it kinda elevated from there. People started requesting the tees I was altering. As time went on and I really developed a passion for design, I started to crest more than t-shirts. I graduated to skirts, tops and it only went up from there.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t the most smooth road, but it hasn’t been as hard as some go through. I honestly have to say this is truly what I was born to do, and I times I just didn’t know how to fully “start.” I also think my main problem, truthfully, is that in the beginning, I didn’t take designing as seriously as I could have. I ran from it a lot. I didn’t truly put the time and work into it and treated it kinda like a hobby. That held me back more than anything. My own lackadaisical attitude. That’s very different now, and I also see way more opportunities because of it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart is the ability to take typical embellishments and make them a functional part of a garment. I also have certain pieces that take classic pieces like a blazer and kimono and merge them but not only that. I add fictional embellishments that set the piece in its own category. I can describe this more in pics of the pieces.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my brand being manufactured and sold to the masses. I just got started getting my work manufactured this year and I’m so excited.
