Today we’d like to introduce you to Donovan Davis.
Hi Donovan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
What’s good Y’all. A little bit about, I was born and raised in Houston, Texas! Much love to my city! Growing up from an early age, I always engaged in the arts. From doing monologues and plays in the church to practicing speech, debate and singing Bass I in choir during my schooling.
However, DANCE called to me the most and still does with my passion growing even more in 2012. I was introduced to YA (Youth Advocates), where the freestyle dance scene threw down! Shout out to Gabriel “Danger” Dang and Stepheon “Holotype” Stewart for being the opening gates to the community for me. Within the Community, I trained and competed and grew as a dancer and popper. POPPING spoke out to me the most because it allowed me to be groovy and technical at the same time. It wasn’t until Slick Dogg’s workshop. Where my love for popping grew even more. After graduating high school, I moved to Austin, Texas where I attended college and found PARTNER DANCING where I learned salsa, bachata, kizomba, and zouk! Going social dancing was like going to a different world from the freestyle street dance scene. I enjoyed the lack of competition and more connecting and socializing aspect of going to a social. I ended up learning more and started to travel throughout the USA and Canada sharing my passion for urban kiz & bachata fusion.
Nowadays, I have moved to the DFW area where I am diving deeper artistically through dance while growing professionally within business and marketing. I get the honor to make an impact with the youth in FWISD through dance empowering their Social – Emotional Learning skills. Partnering with non-profit Imagination Fort Worth to make an impact in the community of Fort Worth, Texas giving back to the youth. Thank you, Jennifer “Bout It” Gonzales for being a bridge and pillar in the DFW community! Head to my social media or find me in person and let’s connect! Much love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road especially with covid – happening, life for everyone had to shift, so there were adjustments needed to be made personally and professionally. Not to mention the car accident that had stopped my momentum for a bit, but the vortex of abundance is open! We elevating, Yall!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In short, I’m a dance, art, and marketing enthusiast who loves to educate and entertain through dance classes, content, performances, and marketing for clients. In addition to growing as an entrepreneur through a management training program with a marketing group in Dallas, Texas. When it comes to dancing, I teach and train in popping, body movement/awareness, menstyling, urbankiz, bachata, salsa, social dance fusion, and SEL. With dance being a vessel for my artistic life, working with indirect and direct forms of marketing such as social media, B2C, and events funnels my professional life.
