Check out Geraton Fuller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geraton Fuller.

Geraton, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
It’s hard to tell a story I feel is just beginning, but if I had to start I would say it all started at Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne, TX. I was president of the youth department, on the praise team, in the choir, and anything you could think of. At the time, I didn’t realize that everything I was doing was planting seeds for my future. When you grow up in such a small town, it’s almost like you get boxed in and just become comfortable with what’s in front of you because it’s so easy. I will say that I was blessed to be around people who really breathed life and fed into me at an early age. I really owe my drive, determination, and character to my mother Cynthia Flemings. She really put another meaning into “Stay Ready so you don’t have to Get Ready”. Being prepared is one thing that was constantly preach in my home, but of course like any other high school athlete the only thing I was really focused on at that time was getting a basketball scholarship. Sports was that one thing for us in the country compared to all the resources available in the city that expose kids to other opportunities like the entertainment industry or STEAM. While going to college to play basketball, I had a son which altered my plans a bit. I knew that I had to make some tough decisions so that I could provide, so I enrolled in the US Army. This wasn’t my first decision, but after so many failed attempts at entrepreneurship and bills piling up I knew it was the best choice. That’s really where the story begins — being in the military really enhanced certain skills and taught me how to network. The military is where I learned “Perception is Everything” from that quote alone it made me think and act differently. It wasn’t about who I was or stood for, but what could be perceived by my actions. Other than that, one thing I did know was the everyday routine of getting up early and working late could not be my life. So I started focusing more on writing and producing music while living in Georgia. Although I couldn’t make the moves I wanted due to still being enlisted in the military, I was still able to experience performing in Atlanta and rub elbows with some top industry professionals. Performing was ok, but I was more focused on behind the scenes and what moved the industry. It’s a place for everybody in the industry, but I knew I was meant for the business side not knocking anybody who wants to be an artist, but signing checks is ideal. After being medically discharged from the military I moved back to Houston. By this time my writing had evolved. Short notes turned into full stories. I knew nothing about writing scripts nor what it took to actually make a film. I then knew I had to learn videography and photography. So I enrolled into the Art Institute of Houston to study filmmaking. Through my time at The Art Institute, I was able to connect with industry professionals and be exposed to professional opportunities within the film industry. It was during my time in school where things came full circle for me which led me to form my media production company, Success Is Quality, LLC. I’ve had the opportunity to partner with other non-profit organizations, Modeling Agencies, The NAACP Houston Chapter, work on film sets, film weddings, write and direct my own projects, and film celebrity interviews with Blessed Beatz Media and now host my own show, KickN’ IT Radio on 92 Kelz. After Graduating from the Art Institute I went into business with my neighbor Sam Noor where I became partner in a hookah business “Social Lab HTX”, a CBD Retail Store “Clean Releaf”, and in the process of opening a Lounge that will be the first of its kind in TEXAS called “Leaf Lounge” The only thing I really can take credit for is not giving up and trusting GOD. I’m thankful for every door that was opened and every stoned that was laid.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is visual storytelling. I create experiences and memories through digital presentation. I want people to be able to feel what they see when they look at my work. I want it to speak to them. I want it to evoke emotion. I want my work to take you on a memorable rollercoaster. I feel like being an artist is pushed so much into making people think outside the box, that they really forget the foundation of what’s not only relatable but appealing.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think things are tough for artist today. We live in a microwave generation where everyone wants to rush to get things done instead of trusting the process. The masses make it hard sometimes to be creative because so much of the same thing is happening everywhere. Things today are moving ten times as fast as they were in the early 2000s. Artist today really have to be on the top of their game and be more knowledgable than ever due to social media. I think cities could thrive off letting artists express themselves by continue to create environments and spaces where local artists can showcase or exhibit their work with the general public.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
A great deal of my work is sent directly to clients for their personal usage. You can also view my work on YouTube, Vimeo, and social media. People can support my work by following me, interacting, and allowing me to capture their special moments.
