Today we’d like to introduce you to Gisele Becker Dias Ramos Da Costa.
Hi Gisele, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into photography is deeply connected to my own life story and to motherhood.
For more than 20 years, I built a career in management and leadership roles within a large oil and gas company, working closely with executives and strategic projects. It was a meaningful and rewarding path, but over time I began to feel that I was missing important moments in my own family’s life. Little by little, a desire grew in my heart to build a life that would allow me to be more present with the people I love, while also pursuing work that truly reflected my values and what matters most to me.
Photography entered my life during that season of transition. What began as a passion soon became a calling. I realized that documenting the very beginning of life — pregnancy, birth, and the first days of a newborn — is one of the most meaningful gifts we can give to a family.
Over the years, I invested in specialized training in newborn and family photography and gained experience photographing babies and families in a variety of settings, including work connected to major maternity hospitals in New Hampshire.
Today, through Gisele Becker Family & Newborn Photography, my work focuses on documenting the journey of motherhood — from maternity to birth and the first days of a baby’s life.
My goal is not only to create beautiful images, but to preserve the emotion, tenderness, and depth of these moments so families can relive them for generations.
Now based in the North Houston area, I feel deeply grateful to continue this work and to serve families by documenting one of the most meaningful chapters of their lives: the arrival of a new life into the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the journey has not always been smooth. Like any meaningful path, it has also come with its challenges.
One of the biggest transitions was leaving behind a long and stable career to begin something completely new in a different field. Starting over requires courage, humility, and a willingness to learn every day. Photography is both an art and a business, so beyond developing technical and creative skills, I also had to build a brand, earn the trust of families, and grow my work step by step.
Another challenge was moving to a new country and rebuilding my professional life in a new place. Starting again in a new community means creating connections, understanding a new market, and gradually building relationships with families and professionals in the area.
I am also a mother of five children, and motherhood is a central part of who I am. Along our family journey, we also experienced the pain of losing a few pregnancies at advanced stages. Those experiences profoundly changed the way I see life, motherhood, and every baby who comes into the world.
They transformed the way I value each life and every moment of this journey. This perspective naturally became part of my work. When I photograph a pregnancy, a birth, or the first days of a newborn, I don’t see just a photo session — I see a unique and precious story, often filled with deep meaning for that family.
Looking back, I realize that every challenge helped me grow — both as a person and as an artist — and strengthened my purpose of preserving these meaningful moments for families.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Through Gisele Becker Family & Newborn Photography, I specialize in documenting the journey of motherhood — from maternity to birth and newborn sessions. My work focuses on capturing the very beginning of life and the deep emotional connection within families during this transformative season.
I am especially known for my newborn photography, where safety, gentleness, and respect for the baby are always the priority. Each session is calm, patient, and baby-led, allowing me to create timeless images that reflect the tenderness of those first days. I also love documenting maternity and family moments in a natural and meaningful way.
What I am most proud of is the trust that families place in me during such an intimate and meaningful moment of their lives. Being invited to document the arrival of a baby is a great responsibility, and I approach every session with deep care and respect for each family’s story.
I believe what sets my work apart is the emotional perspective I bring to it. As a mother, and through my own life experiences, I see motherhood and new life with a deep sense of reverence. My goal is not simply to create beautiful photographs, but to preserve the emotion, the love, and the significance of those moments so families can hold onto them for generations.
Every image I create carries that intention — to honor the beginning of a life and the story of a family.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to be patient with the process and stay connected to your purpose. Building something meaningful takes time. Skills grow, confidence grows, and your voice as an artist becomes clearer with experience.
I would also say: never stop learning. Invest in education, study your craft, observe light, understand people, and always look for ways to improve. Photography is not only about the camera — it’s about sensitivity, empathy, and the ability to see what truly matters in a moment.
Another important lesson is to value relationships. The photography world is built on trust. Treat every family with care, professionalism, and genuine respect, because those relationships are what truly sustain a long-term career.
I also wish I had worried less about comparison. Every photographer has a unique path and perspective. The most important thing is to stay authentic and create work that reflects your heart and your values. When you do that, your work will naturally find the people it is meant for.
