Today we’d like to introduce you to No Limbitations Tx
Hi No Limbitations Tx, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When discovering our children would be born with a limb difference, we each felt ourselves suddenly faced with difficult situations. Trying to understand how and why this happened, or trying to find support came with challenges. Learning how to best support our children with the right doctors, resources, language, answers, and reactions when other kids and adults asked questions; has become a priority of ours, all while helping them feel confident and loved. It all felt so important, finding the answers and a support group of moms in Texas to share experiences with, was harder than it should’ve been.
We are 3 moms that are so lucky to have found each other, and want to help others as we continue to grow with our knowledge and resources.
Our mission is to spread awareness, support families, sponsor fun events for kids with limb differences (and without!), and to bring more inclusive books to classrooms.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Our biggest obstacle is managing our many goals, aspirations, and ideas to ignite this gap where there is a lack of awareness and connections for limb different families. We want the opportunity to connect with all of the amazing people in our community, but it has been challenging to reach everyone as quickly as we aspire to. Since there are three of us, we have been learning each other’s strengths to maximize our potential as a limb different organization in Texas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our organization hosts limb different guest speakers to schools in the area, donates books to schools on acceptances of differences, while hosting events for kids to meet others just like them (which many have not been able to prior to our organization). We are working to spread awareness and change the dialogue surrounding limb different stigmas. We want to normalize differences through exposure. As moms we felt like there was a lack of support and knowledge when finding out your child has a difference, and we wanted to help provide a safe place for people to connect and not feel alone in their complicated feelings.
We raise money through donations, personalized bead bracelets, sticker and t-shirt sales. One of our favorite events we fundraised for was for a visit from a limb different musician, Tony Memmel. He came to local elementary schools and churches in the Spring Branch area reaching hundreds of kids to spread limb difference awareness and acceptance.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Despite this time where so many people have had to isolate, we found that the need for connection of limb different families still existed and families needed a place of support now more than ever. We have already seen how our support is making an impact and we are grateful to support others during this difficult time.
