Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerricka Caldwell.
Hi Jerricka, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jerricka Caldwell, and I’m the owner of Capture The Moment Photography by Jayda. Photography started as a passion that quickly turned into a purpose. What began with simply wanting to capture meaningful memories for family and friends grew into a business dedicated to helping people tell their stories through timeless images.
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced personal challenges, financial obstacles, and moments where I questioned whether I should keep going. But every challenge became motivation to work harder and continue building something I could be proud of. I taught myself, invested in my craft, and focused on creating an experience where every client feels seen, valued, and confident.
Today, Capture The Moment Photography has expanded far beyond portraits. I photograph families, graduates, weddings, businesses, branding campaigns, events, products, and more. I’ve also built a strong presence in the Kansas City community by creating unique themed photoshoots, collaborating with local businesses, and using my platform to help other entrepreneurs market and grow their brands.
More than anything, my mission is to create lasting memories while empowering people to see the beauty and confidence within themselves. Every session is an opportunity to preserve a moment that can never be recreated, and that’s what continues to inspire me every single day. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, but I truly believe this is only the beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced setbacks that tested both my business and my personal strength. One of my biggest challenges has been navigating ongoing health issues while trying to grow a business. There were days when I had to push through pain, exhaustion, doctor’s appointments, and uncertainty, all while continuing to show up for my clients and deliver my best work.
Another major challenge came when I became pregnant. My pregnancy was considered high-risk, which meant slowing down wasn’t really an option, even though my body often told me otherwise. Balancing my health, preparing for motherhood, and maintaining my business required a level of resilience I didn’t know I had. Becoming a mother gave me an even greater purpose and motivation to succeed.
I’ve also had to overcome self-doubt. Photography can feel like a male-dominated industry, especially in certain spaces like commercial work, events, and large productions. There were times when I questioned whether I was good enough or if I belonged in those rooms. Learning to silence that inner critic and trust my talent has been one of the biggest parts of my journey. I’ve realized that I don’t have to compete by being like anyone else—my creativity, my perspective, and the way I connect with people are what make my work stand out.
Looking back, every obstacle has shaped the businesswoman and artist I am today. Those experiences taught me resilience, strengthened my confidence, and reminded me that success isn’t about having a perfect journey—it’s about continuing to move forward, even when the road is difficult.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I specialize in portrait photography, my work extends far beyond that. I photograph families, graduates, weddings, branding sessions, corporate events, products, real estate, and community events. I also create custom marketing content for businesses and organizations, helping brands visually tell their story and connect with their audience.
One thing I’m known for is creating experiences, not just photoshoots. I love thinking outside the box and producing creative, themed sessions that allow my clients to step into a different world while still feeling like themselves. Whether it’s an editorial-style shoot, an urban streetwear campaign, or a branding session for a small business, I want every client to leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.
What I’m most proud of is the impact my business has had on my community. Photography has allowed me to celebrate milestones, preserve family memories, support local entrepreneurs, and create opportunities for people to see themselves in a new light. Being able to use my talent to uplift others is something I never take for granted.
I believe what sets me apart is my heart. Anyone can take a picture, but I strive to create an experience where every person feels comfortable, celebrated, and genuinely seen. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all photography. Every client has a unique story, and I approach each session with creativity, intention, and a commitment to capturing authentic moments that will be treasured for years to come.
As my business continues to grow, my goal remains the same: to create images that not only preserve memories but also inspire confidence, celebrate individuality, and leave a lasting legacy for every client I have the privilege of serving.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I want readers to know that your circumstances don’t have to define your future. There will be moments when you question yourself, face setbacks, or feel like giving up, but those moments don’t determine where your story ends. Every challenge I’ve faced has strengthened my faith, my resilience, and my purpose.
If there’s one thing I hope people take away from my journey, it’s that success isn’t about being the loudest or having the easiest path—it’s about showing up consistently, believing in yourself even when it’s hard, and never stopping the pursuit of your dreams.
I’m incredibly grateful to every client, supporter, family member, and friend who has trusted me and encouraged me along the way. Capture The Moment Photography by Jayda is more than a business to me—it’s a legacy I’m building, one photograph, one relationship, and one opportunity at a time.
This is only the beginning, and I’m excited to continue creating, growing, and inspiring others to chase their own dreams fearlessly.
