Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Johnson.
Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career In fashion 13 years ago, working with stylist Leslie Rivas who was the director at Page Parkes where she did all the shows for the galleria mall that was hosted the ice rinks for years; then I moved to Atlanta to work with the amazing Reco Chapple who has worked with the “Braxtons, Kandi Burruss, the housewives, married to medicine and quite honestly If you are in black Hollywood he has worked for them.
How I got to where I am now was due to them both they taught me the business side also obtaining my degree In retail & fashion merchandising has helped as well including working with celebrities like Keyshia Cole, Erica Mena, Quad Webb & so many others who allowed me to be creative with them.
Another proud few moments was helping my best friend Travis Young create a space for all creatives, “Last Rebel Ent” we threw some of the biggest urban fashion shows when there weren’t any, we also helped models who never modeled ever become who they are today & we create a genre In the “texas fashion Industry that nobody has created that was cultivating Urban Fashion”.
My last proud moment Is working with the genus Janell Stephens who is the founder/owner of Camille Rose Naturals she has allowed me to create fashion moments for her that has been seen by millions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
God, no. It’s never a smooth ride you deal with items not arriving, you deal with damages, you deal with celebrities who sometimes want the impossible, I think the smoothest ride was and will always be styling my NFL wives, the husbands & women who absolutely love the thrill of styling & fashion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fashion creative I use to words like the styling but that has changed I’ve been blessed to be In this career that has brought me so much confidence to my day-to-day lifestyle, I’ve been blessed to attend Fashion weeks around the world that has allowed me to meet so many talented other creatives & stylists.
My proudest moment Is also having that client tell me “Thank you for being amazing you really has changed my life”.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, I have the clientele & shows was stopped automatically so I had to navigate what was next for me so I picked back up Into what my degree Is In and got back Into retail I have helped design new boutiques also went back Into studying further my education.
I learned that when your clients aren’t busy that will somewhat honestly make you become depressed but you must not get In stuck In that and find new ways to be a creative cause at the end of the day we are creatives.
The biggest lesson you also learn that must have your contracts In place you must protect yourself as a creative that’s so important to you & your brand.
