Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameron Wilkerson.
Hi Kameron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I actually learned how to bake before I learned how to cook from my grandmother when I was around 7 0r 8 years old. When my grandmother passed, I continued to pick up knowledge in the kitchen from my mother. I would only cook occasionally but I always have had a love of food growing up. I did not take cooking seriously until I got my first apartment at age 19 because I did not have a meal plan anymore. However, I was just cooking to survive and save money at this point. It wasn’t until late January of 2021 when I decided to start my cooking page and it wasn’t until the next month that I quit my job that time to do cooking full time. From there, the rest is history.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but if it was easy, it would not be worth doing. Along the way, I’ve dealt with severe anxiety and some depression (something I was diagnosed with in 2020). I’ve also have had to deal with certain health issues that have sidetracked me a little bit. All and all though none of these obstacles have stopped me from progressing and getting better.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a chef from Dallas, TX who has done work all across Texas. I have a large variety of things I cook, but I specialize in seafood and steaks. I am most proud of how quickly I learn and pick up things in the kitchen. What sets me apart from other chefs is my consistency and my resilience. Nothing in this life can keep me out of the kitchen. It’s a God-given gift that I plan on mastering.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is that you have to have crazy confidence to be successful in this business. However, in order to be confident, you have to do the work to be prepared. Proper preparation breeds confidence.
