Check Out Keearies Hawkins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keearies Hawkins.

Hi Keearies, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It started about eight years ago with a freestyle in the front seat of a car riding around with my friends listening to random instrumentals. We was messing around and wanted to do something different than just listening to the radio or any song in rotation. I really wasn’t in the mindset to freestyle cause I had not really done it before but everyone wanted me to give it a shot so why not right? It was that day that showed me that maybe I have something in a place I never even considered. It wasn’t something I ever thought about at the time. But was something that sparked the beginning of my journey into music and the entertainment industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a challenge being noticed or accepted. As an artist considering rappers have a certain image and I don’t necessarily fit that image because I don’t use profanity in my music. Nothing against people who do because I have worked with some that have and we’ve made great music together. But even with that being said, people still don’t take me seriously because I don’t. But growing up, I was always the person to be different so I accepted that challenge and chose to break the mold even though there are some legends before me that started it. I’m just taking up the reigns in the modern day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, I am an artist who writes, records, mixes and edits all of my content and others’ content as well. I also have come up with the concepts for my brand, cover artwork and collaborated with others to expand that vision to what it is today. Some of the biggest highlights of this journey has been hearing my music on the radio for the first time Shout Out Mr. Bishop. The first time I walked on a stage to perform my singles “The Passenger” and “I Say”. And being able to put my music on all platforms. And seeing the response from people even in different countries like Brazil, England, France, Canada, and Australia has really brought joy to my spirit.

I didn’t grow up in the streets but situations was presented to me where I’ve seen what that life is like and how it could affect someone. As well as being profiled because of how I look in my own neighborhood. But I didn’t allow it to break my spirit. Because it only takes one bad day and you could be like any stereotypes but to rise above those days is the true test. So the thing that would set me apart from others that do what I do is my soul and spirit and I want people to see that from me. That even through the bad times, you can get through it and keep a good spirit.

How do you think about luck?
Luck has played itself on both sides of that coin. The good has set in motion all my opportunities weather with shows like opening for dice soho, features, moments like being in a music video with rayface and experiencing what that’s like, highlights and memories. But also the bad has come up as well the struggles, downtimes, frustrations, really putting on strong for my city Houston which doesn’t get the recognition it deserves like Atlanta, New York, or Cali. It does make it challenging while also life not just with recent events like the pandemic but living in Houston and how it’s changed over the years. You really have to grind it out to be successful out of Houston.
