Today we’d like to introduce you to Keilee.
Keilee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This is going to sound a bit cliche, but as a kid the person that influenced me to want to become an artist was Beyoncé. It wasn’t just her talent vocally, but her stage presence and confidence that sold me. Outside of the normal activities of a little girl, you could more than likely catch me singing and dancing in my room, while imagining I was performing on stage. The funny thing is that as confident as I was performing in my room, I had the biggest stage fright lol.
As I got older, I discovered music didn’t just make me happy, but it understood my growing pains; turning more therapeutic. It was at this point that I started writing music on and off between the age of 8-19.
However, It wasn’t until the adversity of being temporary homelessness, did I find my heart of song again. In which, my 2021 debut single ‘Rescue Me’ was birthed from. Though my struggles led me to pick up a pen again, it’s my role as a mother that gave me the confidence to turn my dream into reality. I knew if I wanted to raise my children to believe that they could achieve anything, I would have to lead by example.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Personally, my path to where I am now has definitely been bumpy. I struggled the hardest with just believing in myself growing up because I allowed fear, insecurities and self-doubt hold me back in the process. I finally took a real chance on myself about 3-5 years ago, and I couldn’t be more proud of my decision. God has for sure been gracious and faithful day-to-day
On the artist side, it gets tough at times being that I manage everything until I’m able to be a build a solid team.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As I stated earlier, I’m an independent artist which is what I’m currently known for. Daily I’m learning to specialize more in my gift as a singer-songwriter, and learning more about music theory and the industry.
When it comes to what I’m proud of as an artist I have two things: 1) my resilience and not giving up on me, cause though I’m not where I want to be, I’m grateful for every progress I’m making. 2) the fact that I have music out and more on the way, so make sure y’all take a listen!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Let’s see… Though most times I’m an introvert, God’s gifted me with a true niche of encouraging others when they’re facing challenging times. I love being used by God in this way because He speaks through me enabling me to be a light in a dark place.
