Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Liu.
Hi Liz, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The true story of it all began with my 12th Christmas, when my mom and dad got me my first camera. All the girls were being “Tumblr” then, and the Canon Rebel was my started. That camera helped me connect with so many people one and one. That became a hobby that led to me taking a good majority of senior photos during my last two years of high school. The camera continued to be my social link to so many organizations and people once I entered college, and it was the a natural progression of starting Memory Lane Photography. Each person I met continued their own individual journeys and life milestones, but each of those good connections led them back wanting a familiar face to photograph this life moments. As I continued my own life and moved to different cities, I met even more new faces to photograph and established a widened net around Texas. Now, I’m grateful I have clients let me into their graduations, their engagements, their weddings and now family photos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m so lucky because the because the road has been mostly smooth for me! The only struggles was every few years I was moving for school, and thus re-starting in a new city always had its challenges. Finding the good locations, finding the rules for the locations, getting used to the weather and lighting of a new city and of course establishing new relationships here with my photo clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer! My main three focus points are my senior graduates (focusing on college and doctoral programs), couples and engagement, and wedding photography. The greatest part of these three is that they go hand-in-hand. I’ve had the best college graduates who later found the love of their life, and I’ve captured that same growth through engagement photos and their wedding day. It went from meeting one person and establishing that friendship to getting to know their significant other to knowing all their important friends and family. It’s the most wonderful feeling of trust as I’ve gotten to do this. I believe my personality is what truly shines in this job and that helps me create the genuine attachments between my clients. I create more times to meet up either in person or virtually at no cost, simply just to have more interactions and create an easy space for them to fall back on if we’re talking weddings. In all these milestones, it’s both hectic and joyful and it’s wonderful to have a third-party be your hype person or your calming board, whichever they need.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’ve been on a huge audiobook kick lately and I love listening to it while I’m editing my photos at home or in the coffee shops around the Heights. My go-to ones are Fourth Wing, any Emily Henry cute rom com novel or anything Freida McFadden too. They’re so wonderful and help me focus while creating an entirely fictional world around me!
