Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Bowe
Hi Marisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sales literally had me at hello. From an early age, I was selling stickers at lunch, the infamous POGS when they were a thing (that definitely pins me at a certain age), books on Amazon before Amazon become what we know today. My first year of college, I worked at a retailer but to earn extra cash, I bought the mini red ear sliders (turtles) from downtown Los Angeles and sold them in a Walmart parking lot. I always found a way to sell and be creative in how I would pitch it. When I had my first son and the cost of childcare was super expensive, I took on real estate as a side hustle. I was a fresh out of college, first year teacher, and I was b-r-o-k-e. I found that there was a perfect balance between sales and education and took a side hustle and grew it into a referral based career that I absolutely love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If there are not challenges, I am not growing. Since I balance two careers, challenges are time management and networking. While I am scarfing down my lunch in 22 minutes, I miss out on the networking lunch and learns that my fellow peers get to attend. Being taken seriously as a dual career individual versus ‘part time’ has been challenging at time, but my goal is to earn the respect of my peers and prove to them that I am very capable of handling both and many times, outperforming agents that do not have an 8-5 to clock in.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Because education is a huge part of my life, my goal is to take care of our Hometown Heroes (teachers, police officers, first responders, firefighters, military, etc). If there is any possible way I can give back to them, I will. I do give a portion of my commission towards their closing costs because it is my way of saying, “thank you” and “I see what you do.” I am proud of building a business that started as a way to pay for childcare to generating the same volume that some of our higher producers in our office of 600 generate. I am an out of the box thinker when it comes to problem solving. Just like education, there MUST BE a plan a, plan b, plan c when it comes to the home buying and home selling process and most importantly, just like education, I tell my clients there is not such thing as a dumb question. My goal is to keep my clients informed along the way.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am apprehensive when discussing risk. As a single mom, I fear taking a risk where it would leave me in a position where my boys go without at any time. I have kept both careers going because I am able to utilize my degree in education, get health benefits, and work within my community WHILE keeping the real estate at a steady climb with referrals. I dream of taking risks and admire those that do.
