Today we’d like to introduce you to Marleny Aguilar.
Marleny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am from a small town south of Houston, moved to The Woodlands to start cosmetology over 13 years ago. I have worked at 2 high-end Houston salons. I’ve spent hours attending trainings and mastering my craft. I always said I didn’t want to be a business owner and one day I woke up with a wild dream and took a leap. In September 2020, opened my own salon and become a small business owner! I had thought about it for a few years and kept pushing it back. During the pandemic in the spring of 2020, I spent a lot of time at home and like many others and during this time I realized I had so much more to offer in this industry. I was no longer challenging or pushing myself to my highest potential. This is when I realized it was time for me to take the next step and that is when The Color Collective came to life.
My vision for The Color Collective is to grow into a small boutique-style salon with an amazing team that is education-driven, has a strong work ethic, and is passionate about connecting with guests and providing exceptional service.
Our guests can walk in and feel like they are visiting their best friend and getting spoiled at the same time. They feel strongly confident that they are at the right place and their expectations are being exceeded every single time they sit in our chair. We provide customized looks specifically tailored for them and their lifestyle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think every business has its own challenges, I’ve learned a lot about running a business and about myself in the last year. Finding out I was pregnant 2 weeks after signing my lease was a bit of a surprise, panic set in and I started to second guess my decision and the timing. As time went on I realized this was the best decision I could have made for my business and family. Life as a new business owner and new mother has also had its challenges but learning how to navigate this new life has also been a lot of fun and very rewarding in many different ways.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I pride myself on really listening to each person that sits in my chair, every successful service begins with a thorough consultation. Making professional recommendations based on their personality and lifestyle and creating customized looks based on the type of hair, face shape and ultimate goals. My goal is that every person that walks out of the door leaves feeling confident, happy, and in love with their hair. They should be able to maintain their hairstyle at home and it looks just as good in between their services. I specialize in hair color services, over the last 13 years I have dedicated a large part of my continuing education in color. I wanted to be able to provide any color service to any person that walked in the door. It is very important to me that my clients trust that they will leave the salon with what they envisioned when they walked in.
