Check Out Meek Williams’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meek Williams.

Hi Meek, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the beauty industry started with a passion for helping people feel confident and beautiful. Over the years, I discovered that working with locs was more than just hairstyling, it was a way to help people express themselves, embrace their natural beauty, and build confidence.

I built Retwisted by Meek through hard work, consistency, and a genuine love for my craft. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges along the way, from balancing family life while raising three sons to navigating the ups and downs of business ownership. Those experiences taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying true to my vision.

As my business grew, so did my desire to continue learning and elevating my skills. I became a licensed cosmetologist, expanded my service offerings, and focused on creating an experience where clients feel valued, cared for, and confident when they leave my chair.

Today, Retwisted by Meek is more than a business, it’s a reflection of my purpose. I take pride in helping clients maintain healthy locs, achieve their hair goals, and feel their best. I’m grateful for the support of my clients and community, and I’m excited to continue growing both personally and professionally while inspiring others to pursue their dreams.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing entrepreneurship, motherhood, and personal growth. As a business owner, there are seasons where you’re wearing every hat—stylist, marketer, customer service representative, accountant, and everything in between.

Building my business required a lot of sacrifice, consistency, and faith, especially during slower seasons when success wasn’t guaranteed. There were times when I questioned myself, felt overwhelmed, or had to make difficult decisions to protect my peace and stay focused on my goals.

Another challenge has been learning the importance of boundaries. As someone who genuinely cares about people, I had to learn that not everyone deserves unlimited access to my time and energy. Setting healthy boundaries has helped me become a better business owner, mother, and person.

Looking back, I’m grateful for the obstacles because they helped shape the woman I am today. They’ve taught me resilience, confidence, and the importance of trusting God’s timing. Every setback became an opportunity to grow, and every challenge pushed me closer to the vision I had for myself and my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Retwisted by Meek, a loc-focused salon where I specialize in loc maintenance, starter locs, creative styling, and helping clients maintain healthy, thriving locs throughout their journey. While I love every aspect of loc care, I am especially known for my creative styles, attention to detail, and ability to bring my clients’ visions to life while protecting the integrity of their hair.

What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients and the community I’ve created. Many of my clients have been with me for years, and there is no greater compliment than having someone trust you with their hair and confidence. Seeing clients leave my chair feeling empowered, confident, and excited about their appearance is what motivates me every day.

What sets me apart is that I focus on the overall client experience, not just the hairstyle. I educate my clients on healthy loc maintenance, take the time to understand their goals, and genuinely care about their hair’s long-term health. I believe great work comes from a combination of skill, creativity, consistency, and authenticity.

Beyond styling hair, I view my work as a form of service. My chair has become a space where people can relax, be themselves, and leave feeling better than when they arrived. Being able to use my gift to impact others in that way is something I never take for granted.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
As an entrepreneur, I rely heavily on a combination of technology, education, and personal development. Apps like Booksy help me stay organized and manage my business efficiently, while social media platforms allow me to connect with clients, showcase my work, and stay inspired by other creatives in the beauty industry.

I also enjoy listening to podcasts and consuming content focused on entrepreneurship, mindset, personal growth, and faith. Those resources help me stay motivated and remind me that growth happens both personally and professionally.

One of my favorite resources, however, is simply learning from experience. Every client, challenge, and opportunity teaches me something new. I believe staying open to learning, remaining coachable, and continuously investing in yourself are some of the most valuable tools any business owner can have.

Outside of work, I make time for fitness, reflection, and personal development. Taking care of my mind, body, and spirit allows me to show up as the best version of myself for my family, my clients, and my business.
