Today we’d like to introduce you to Mel Beauty.
Hi Mel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey really began when I was just two years old, entering pageants and falling in love with the stage. Modeling has always been a passion of mine, but for a long time it lived only as a dream. In 2021, I made the decision to turn that dream into reality. Since then, I’ve walked in over 20 Houston fashion shows, appeared in three New York Fashion Week shows, been published more than 10 times, and most recently, saw myself featured on a Times Square billboard. I’ve had the privilege of modeling across many genres from high fashion to urban wear, swimwear, and lingerie showcasing the range and versatility of curvy and plus-size models.
Beyond the career highlights, my journey has also been deeply personal. It’s been about learning to embrace myself fully, rebuilding after challenges, and stepping into the woman I was always meant to be. Modeling has given me not only a platform, but also a purpose: to represent women who deserve to see themselves celebrated in fashion, and to inspire others to pursue their own dreams with confidence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. On the career side, I’ve faced rejection and the challenge of breaking into an industry that hasn’t always celebrated curvy and plus-size women. There were moments I questioned if there was even space for me, but I kept pushing forward because I knew representation mattered. I learned to take every ‘no’ as fuel to grow and as a challenge to keep going in my modeling career.
On the personal side, I had to rebuild myself after leaving an abusive marriage and navigating major life transitions. Those moments tested my strength, but they also helped me uncover a deeper level of confidence and resilience. Every obstacle—whether personal or professional—has fueled my growth. The challenges are what made me step fully into my purpose and prove, not just to others but to myself, that I belong here.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a curvy/plus-size model based in Houston, and I specialize in bringing versatility to the runway and in front of the camera. I’ve modeled everything from high fashion to urban wear, swimwear, and lingerie and I take pride in being able to adapt to different styles while still bringing my own energy and confidence to every project.
I’m most proud of the milestones I’ve reached so far walking in over 20 Houston fashion shows, appearing in New York Fashion Week three times, being published more than 10 times, and recently seeing myself on a Times Square billboard. Each of those moments reminded me that my passion and persistence are paying off.
What really sets me apart, though, is my purpose. I’m not just modeling for myself — I’m modeling to represent curvy and plus-size women who deserve to be seen, celebrated, and respected in this industry. I want people to see that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and I use every opportunity I get to make sure that message comes across loud and clear.
Looking ahead, my goal is to expand my career internationally and step further into editorial and commercial modeling. I want to continue breaking barriers and showing the world that curvy models belong on every runway, in every magazine, and in every campaign.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love everything about Houston — it’s home. I was born and raised in Sunnyside, and this city shaped so much of who I am. From the culture to the music to the food, there’s always something to love and connect with here. If I had to pick one thing I don’t like, I’d definitely say the traffic! But overall, Houston will always have my heart.
